Going into REG W/Zero sims

This is all in the title. But basically I have made it my goal to be at 90% completion included optional questions on the becker MCQs for REG.

I’ve been told sims on REG typically don’t help people much with becker. I may hedge my bets and do a few sims for chapters 3 & 4.

Does anybody have input on what the value sims prep has been for reg in the past?

Side Note – A few co-workers created a “becker bump” tracker – it seems you are about guaranteed to score on reg 12% higher than your lowest becker final exam score (exception being if you get a 90 or something lol…)

    Thanks

I've used gleim for REG and I can tell you that I had ax exact sim on my exam! thing is that was a topic I didn't pay too much attention to & when I saw it I almost screamed in the centre….

So I would definitely say SIMS for Reg are needed during studying..

    FAR - 2/16 - 78
    BEC - 2/16 - 78
    AUD - 8/16
    REG - 8/16

I think there is a lot of value in practicing SIMS. Individual MCQ's are normally pretty narrow in scope, so they can be a test of memory. SIMS test your ability to tie concepts together, so it is a better gauge of the depth of your knowledge. They can help you figure out what you need to focus on in the review stage.

Reg sims are notoriously difficult according to many on this board. Going into the test without having practiced any may work out, but why risk it? Practicing sims helps you fine tune – things I thought I was good at in mcq gave me fits in sims. I actually thought Becker did a decent job preparing me for reg sims.

I passed all four exams without really studying SIMS. My focus was on MCQ's (thousands of them and study why you got something wrong). Only exception to this was on AUD and REG with research SIMS. Those should be easy points and you need to get those right with minimal time spent on them. Mostly, you need to study those to know how to search efficiently for the topic you are looking for. I felt like if I knew the MCQ's (and not just memorizing answers but really understanding why one answer was correct and the other three were incorrect), that would be enough to get you through the SIMS. Unless you have a great amount of study time before the exam and feel like you will sufficiently go through the MCQ's and still have time available to study SIMS, I wouldn't bother with the SIMS in studying. MCQ's can more than prepare you as long as you study them the way I mentioned. At least that is what worked for me. Everyone has their own way of studying too, so it might not be for everyone. Good Luck! You can do this!

    BEC - 83
    REG - 5/16
    FAR - 7/16

I've seen that spreadsheet that shows that on average, the people on the spreadsheet gained 12 points over their Becker final exams… while that might be an average, it is hardly “guaranteed.” I think not at least going over the solutions to the sims is a big mistake.

    If I told you :

You are guaranteed to pass the CPA Exam if you study REG SIMS, but if you only study MCQ you MIGHT pass.

    Would you study REG SIMS?

No one will require you to – But when they are tools to help you understand and pass the material, do you really want to just ignore them?
