I just received my score for REG and it was 60 but I was trending above 80% on ninja MCQ’s, how did this happen? I use Yaeger CPA review as I have for all 4 parts and now I am starting to rethink how to approach this. Do I keep using Ninja MCQ’s? Do I try another CPA review course? I know I will end up retaking REG and I have to retake FAR again but what do I use? Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? Feeling lost and hopeless………

get wiley test bank and score above 85%, but make sure you understand each concept behind the question. no way around it except drill concepts through multiple choice. As for SIMs, you are on your own. If you can get most MC right, and get at least half on SIMs, you should be borderline passing.

Get Becker, study for 200 hours each exam, I guarantee you will pass.

Sounds like you memorized the answers. Been there, Done that! Here is my advice as someone who finally passed REG on the 8th attempt, Ninja Audio and cheap legal pads. I listened to the audio from beginning to end over and over and over. I wasn't necessarily paying close attention to what Jeff was saying, but I heard it so many times that I memorized most of it. I could tell you what Jeff was about to say, before he said it. I also abandoned the online test bank for a while. It wasn't doing me any good because I had literally memorized the answers to the questions (I did this on FAR too). So, I went back to the books and started writing out the answers just like working homework in school. I set up an excel spreadsheet with the correct answers in a hidden column and plugged in a formula to tell me if my answer was right or wrong. If I missed a question, I wrote, using my own words, an explaination of the concept being tested. If I couldn't explain it to someone else, then I didn't know it. If I missed another question on the same concept, I wrote that explaination again. I have a stack of used legal pads about 2 feet high. About a week before my last attempt, I did a full practice test using the online test bank and scored a 90% or better.

I eventally passed it with an 84. My lowest score was a 61.

Thank you everyone for the great suggestions! I am going to get the Wiley CPA Test bank so that I have additional questions to study and I just got Ninja Audio notes for my commute to work and home. I am going to schedule the retake for mid January so I hope I can pass that time.

Ninja audio! SO helpful. Listen to it until you understand everything and can basically recite it word for word. I would also practice the sims. They're good for practice really understanding the topics and how things flow. I think spending more time on them helped me with the MCQ's that I got on the exam. You'll get it next time around just stick to it:)

    FAR 75 (8/21/13)
    AUD 72 (10/29/13) 74 (2/12/14) 84! (04/01/14)
    BEC 75 (11/27/13)
    REG 72 (05/29/14) 74 (07/10/14) 86 and DONE! (10/02/14)

I understand how you feel. I had passed AUD & BEC back in 2012 and had REG and FAR left with about 2 windows left before losing AUD. I scored a 71 on both REG and FAR, so I lost my AUD in January 2014. Well, I still had BEC which would not expire until Halloween, so I figured that I could pass the last two tests and throw in AUD before the end of the year. Well, I was wrong because I took REG and AUD earlier this year scoring less than a 75. Since I could not retake AUD in the same window, I pretty much lost my BEC, but I decided to keep it moving. For my 5th retake of REG, I read my Yeager/Wiley book and took notes on the chapters and then I did the MCQs over and over again for a month or so. On 10/4, I took the REG test and felt as if I did not do well at all, but I just found out today that I passed with a 75!!!! I thank God for His blessings. 🙂 Of course, it is bittersweet because I just lost my 2nd credit (BEC), so now I only have REG. Nevertheless, I am using the Ninja notes and N-I-N-J-A system to focus on FAR. I feel confident that I am gaining more understanding than before and truly hope to pass FAR on 11/24. Listen, I know it hurts right now and you may feel demotivated or even feel like giving up, but I know you can do it. FIGHT!!! Dig down deep and battle the sadness and then attack your studying and concentrate on it which will allow you to move past the hurt. Many of us have war wounds, but in order to win the war, you gotta keep fighting!! Don't give up. Be encouraged and be blessed.

2002-2003 (when it was 2 Day Test):
    AUD - 69, 80, 81
    LAW - 73, 73, 73
    TAX- 71, 72, 67*
    FAR- 66, 63, 57*
(*on 3rd try, just tried to pass AUD & LAW while getting above 50 on these;didn't work)

    2012-Present:
    AUD - 73, 76 (expired 01/31/14), 70 (UGH)!, 86 (4/4/15 - praise God)!!
    BEC- 55, 69, 69, 78 (expired 10/31/14), 5/26/15...76!!!! AND I'M FINALLY DONE!!!
    FAR- 71, 71, 70, sat 11/24/14 - 75 PASSED!
    REG- 65, 67, 71, 66, sat 10/4/14; 75 PASSED!

Thank you very much Koolkat! Wow! I see that Law and Tax used to be a separate sections of the CPA exam very interesting!! Gah! 2 day test! That had to be incredibly brutal, one day is bad enough! Thank you everyone for the thoughtful advice and yes I am going to push forward, I have gotten this far already. REG and FAR are incredibly hard so that's why I feel like I am climbing a 90 degree slope =(. I passed FAR last year but it was incredibly difficult and to have to do it again….sigh…I am dreading it =(

I failed REG 3 times (54, 67, 69) and I had to pass it in this window, otherwise would have lost my FAR credit too. Thanks to God's grace I just found out that I passed REG with 80 and I am done with my CPA.

Here is what I did for REG this time:

I made notes as I viewed the lectures. So when the lecturer was explaining the concepts I would write that explanation. I didnt do any homework questions at this point. I was only focused on getting through the lecture videos quickly but in hindsight I should have done some homework questions too.

I then made my own summary notes for tax and Blaw by reading the material from the textbooks from start to end.

I also made an excel spreadsheet for the Tax component. I made 8 columns for individuals, self employment individuals, C corp, S corp, partnership, estate, trust and gift tax. In the rows I had income items, deductions above the line, deductions below the line, AMT, filling requirement etc etc…I would then fill in the details as I reviewed the lectures. This helped me a lot as I could compare for instance the requirement for NCL deduction for individuals V/S C corp. I could recollect subtle differences between each component this way.

After completing that, I did all MCQ's + SIMS and as I got a questions wrong I would read the explanation to figure out why I got it wrong and I would make a note of that.

In the final week I reviewed only my own summary notes and the notes I made for the questions I got wrong.

The review materials I used are – Becker and this time I added yeager + ninja notes

for MCQ's and SIMS I used – becker, gleim, wiley test bank, wiley book, ninja MCQ's (overdoing it lol, but had to pass)

If I can do it, so can you! keep at it and im sure you will nail it next time!

    Hope this helps 🙂

I feel your pain. I took AUD today and found out I failed REG with a 64. I needed to pass both exams this quarter, since my BEC credit is expiring this week. I failed so many times but I just keep telling myself to hang in there and keep trying. You will get there!

    BEC-61,68,75
    FAR-63,63,58,77
    AUD-64
    REG-59,64

When can I get my life back?
