Hi everyone, I just got my REG score today and I failed with a 67. I thought I was well prepared for the exam when I took it. Put in the hours after work and weekends. I used Becker self study and also Wiley textbook for MCQ’s and SIMS. I guess I did not study enough to pass the exam but not even sure what more I could have done. I scheduled to take FAR for the next coming window, have only gone as far as chapter 2. I am feeling really depressed about my REG score and don’t know whether I should re-take it in Oct/ Nov and take FAR in Jan/Feb or both in this coming window. Please let me know what your thoughts are. What has worked for you guys?

    Thanks,

Use gliem they have the best circular 230 questions wiley is weak in this and becker has good reading material but weak on questions wise.

FAR: 7/17/10 missed exam FML reschedule 8/29/10-77 EPIC!
    REG: 5/31/11-73 SMH, 8/31/11-85
    BEC: 4/15/10-72 : retake 10/3/10-80
    AUD: 11/28/10-74, 02/27/11-71 FML, 8/1/11-80
    Ethics 10/22/22-80, retake 11/28/11 - 88

Hey CPAchick2011, I'm going to copy and paste to you what I just said in another thread to someone.. Hope this helps!

As you can see from my signature, I have had the pleasure of “restudying.” I know what you mean when you say you studied A LOT. I did too for all of my REG takes. Once you get that passing score you realize exactly what you needed to do the other times and how to apply you time effectively and efficiently. When I received my 60 in REG, it was my second take, the BEST advice someone gave me on this forum was “study it.. like you've never studied before.” That is exactly what I did. Please do NOT dismiss the lectures. We all learn differently but from what I can relate to is I had never gotten anything out of my lectures, except for maybe a cat nap. What I did differently my third time around, and as you can see I had a 20 point score increase, was the following: (And by the way I failed FAR and will be doing exactly this) 1. Clear the history in Becker 2. Re-watch all of the lectures, pause frequently, taking very intense notes. 3.Once you've watched all of the lectures, taken intense notes, you shouldn't need to resort back to the book… Re-worked all MCQs for each chapter, try not to move on to the next chapter until you've completed all MCQs for a particular chapter. 4. Take a few practice tests. 5. Now you probably are feeling confident/comfortable with the Becker material.. BUY WILEY! It will make such a HUGE difference. Work all of the Wiley MCQs, work their SIMs, they're actually pretty good. Last–REWRITE those notes you took!

SLAY THE BEAST THIS NEXT TIME CPACHICK!

Thanks Peanut! Totally appreciate your advice. Not sure whether to continue with FAR studying or concentrate on slaying the REG beast. This is so hard 🙁

Oh wait! I forgot something else important if you are using Becker… I read the ancillary THREE times!! No joke, it was so heavy on all three of my REG exams.. Made a big difference!

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

I know :/ It's hard to give you advice there… I made a mistake when I had failed REG the second time.. I was in the middle of studying FAR, I was 6 chapters in and stopped FAR to return to REG, it ended up being a big mistake :/ But since you're only 2 chapters in… ahh I don't know..

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58

I would go and study REG again…why move on? Get yourself a test bank for additional questions, and maybe Becker flash cards? What worked for me was reading flash cards on a digital recorder then just listening to them during my work commute. Concepts stick to your head after you hear it dozens of times!

Ancillary is designated in Becker only. Wiley just has it so u wouldn't know 🙂

Thx Herbieherb – I think I'll regroup and study REG since I'm only 2 chapters into FAR. Will study REG as if I have never looked at the material before.I think one of the mistakes I made previously was blowing off the ancillary materials. This time I'll even write up notes no them

Also what helped me was going over the common forms like 1040 it makes REG more structured and logical. Go.irs.gov Practice them

@gottagetmycpa- No, I can tell you right now that most of the “ancillary” is not in the Wiley book. That is one of the main reasons I bombed REG. I got so many questions that Wiley didn't cover. If Wiley covered it, it was only in a couple of sentences, but then the actual exam had such a lot of in-depth questions on it. So, I advise that you get a better review book. I am going to do the same.

@CPAChick2011- I'm in the same boat. I just found out I failed REG with a 74 (my new least favorite number). It was my first exam. I just started studying for AUD (only on AUD 1), which I plan to take at the end of November. So do I stop AUD to restudy REG with the hopes of taking it mid-October (and then immediately start w/ AUD for the end of November)? Is 2.5 weeks enough time to refresh REG (took it Aug 15). Is 5/6 weeks then enough for AUD (I work full-time).

@Peanut could give me your take on the timeline for retaking REG? I plan to take your advice above, but can all that be done in 2/3 weeks?

    REG: 8/15/11- 74 Retake 10/17/11
    AUD: 11/28/11
    FAR: 2/12
    BEC: 5/12
