So I just found out I failed REG which is my first CPA exam ever and I’m bummed out but so not giving up!!! I guess my issue is I have AUD at the end of this month and thinking about pushing it to Beginning of January Since I have the time to so I can make sure I have everything down….but I think my problem is I dont know how to study!!! I have never had to study long term in my life an now that seems to be a BIG problem because of the amount of information you need to know for these exams….Don’t get me wrong I do study I just don’t know the best technique for studying!!!

Currently I have been studying for AUD for 4 or 5 days….all I do is multiple choice because I HATE READING THE BOOK!! Do you think this is an ok strategy I read alot with REG and look where that got me so I wanted to change it up so I can find the most effective way for me to study. Any Tips or advice for me????

I think my New Schedule Plan is going to be:

    AUD: Jan 9, 2012

    BEC: Feb 29, 2012

    REG: May 14, 2012

    FAR: TBD

REG 10/01/2011- failed retake hopefully May 2012
    AUD 11/30/2011- failed retake 1/9/2012
    BEC 2/25/2012 -
    FAR-TBD

First off, I am really sorry you didn't get REG this window. Give yourself a break, it was your first exam. Chalk it down as a learning experience, and change your process going forward.

Everybody is different, some people need to just review with a software like Becker, some people need more teaching like Yaeger or Roger–there are so many other review software choices, you have to find what out how you learn best.

In terms of scheduling, since you have only studied Audit for 4/5 days, then it would make sense to get back to REG and study that for an early Jan rematch. IMO. In terms of how you study for that, you are going to have to do some soul searching to understand if it was a committment issue, did you skip any chapters?, or was it the software itself? I do agree, studying is hard–at least finding the right method to do it is. And to make it harder, each exam is different, so invariably, you might want to take a different approach with each. Since it is score release time, many people who passed/failed are starting threads detailing how they did it. I would take the time to go thru the threads and read as much as you can. Learn from it, and adjust your study plan accordingly.

I would give you some tips, but I am waiting to get my REG score later this month. FYI, I used Roger cram in my final review and I loved it. I have used Becker and Yaeger with success with BEC and FAR, but Roger was a nice departure from them. He was energetic–which is something I needed!

Best of luck to you going forward. Keep your chin up, and get ready for one crazy, crazy, ride!

you remind me of myself in regards to not knowing how to study. i also never had to study long term and was a C student all my life. it has been trial and error on finding out how i learn best and i still don't think i have it down 100%. i asked everyone and their mothers on how they passed but realized everyone learns differently and what may have worked for them, may not work for me. good news is you know your problem, bad news is only you can come up with the solution

the #1 advice i can give you that will guarantee you a pass is NEVER GIVE UP!!! i failed 12 times before i passed my first exam

    good luck!!

    REG-65,71,74,73,70,74,79
    BEC-60's,60's,69,71,76*,78
    FAR-67,66,65,79
    AUD-54,60's,65,83*,69,80

Keep trying don't make the mistake I did and fail one and quit like I did 6 years ago. Look into Yaegar Cram or any cram course they can narrow down specifics that are almost always tested and if you know those specifics that is guaranteed to give you points. For me once I passed one test that was great feeling to know I could conquer a part of this I can't imagine how I will feel once I slay this beast!!! The going up is worth the coming down!

    BEC 78 11/13/10
    REG 68 in 2011, 79 Passed 10/1/11
    AUD 78 11/30/11
    FAR Take 2012
Wife is due with our first 5/31/11 will lose BEC credit on 5/31/11 TWO DUE DATES!!

Thanks for all the encouraging words!!! @Yankee Im kind of in a bind because I have already paid for AUD and BEC anticipating a pass for REG lol no I really paid for them to make myself keep going even if I received a fail and they expire in March which is an off month so really by Feb 29, 2012 I have to sit for both. That being said Im torn between taking Audit Nov. 30th or Pushing it back to Jan 9th!!! I feel the 30th is to soon because I havent had time to study tremendously but January seems so far away….What do you suggest I do… I dont want to foul myself into thinking I'm ready and Im not so If I took audit on the 9th of january I would schedule BEC for the 29th of February!!! Im not trying to procrastinate but I WANT TO PASS!!! all suggestions and advice is greatly appreciated. FYI i have already gotten through the first 4 modules of AUD and im using Yeager but I just drill about 90 multiply choice questions a day to study!!! Seems that doing actual problems work better for me than sitting and watching a lecture.

REG 10/01/2011- failed retake hopefully May 2012
    AUD 11/30/2011- failed retake 1/9/2012

I am restuding for 4 weeks! I got a 71 and was weak in business law and sims. I think that I can gain an extra 4 points in 4 weeks. If I work really really hard. What is your plan? what was your score?

    FAR 76
    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)
