I want to puke… I got a 74 on reg back in November and took it again at the end of February and got a 69. My I have the Becker material and the last practice exam I got a 92. I honestly have no clue what I need to do or if it was just the luck of the draw on the test. I walked out of it swearing I nailed it.

I have been there. I made successive 74's using Becker alone. I know that it may be hard to pay more money, but if you want to pass try the Wiley Online Test Bank. Take notes on the questions. Make sure that you understand why the right answer is right and the other answers are wrong. Wiley is great because there are variety of questions in the database. I worked the questions several times. Make sure that you study the SIMS. Most people use Becker but also supplement with either the Wiley Online and/or book. On this blog, you will find that people who pass use a variety of sources. Take notes on the topics in your own words. I eventually passed Regulation with an 86 after supplementing with Ninja and Wiley. Study your heart out – 200 hours or more! Much success to you.

Get more practice. That's what worked for me. I used Exammatrix and got an 85. I'm sure you would have no problem getting there with the Wiley testbank either.

I also took REG back in November 2012 (72) and end of February 2013 (76). I thought the Feb. exam was a tough one, and many test takers generally agreed. Don't beat yourself up: It was a difficult exam. Just restudy. I'm sure you will pass next test window.

Snoop, I pretty much went over the entire course again in the areas it said I was weaker on when the results came back. I probably have 150 hours of lectures and homework combined… I was really hoping to have it knocked out this go around because I passed FAR (82) back in August. So the clock is ticking and with each failed attempt the stress level goes up thinking I will lose it. Man I hate this exam. I picked up the Wiley question. MAN there are a TON of them… which is good. I am nailing them so far but granted I have only taken 70 questions so far.

I feel your pain. I lost FAR and about to lose BEC. I got a 74 on my previous tries as well…

I believe Becker is sufficient enough for MCQs part but not for Sims. I'm reading Wiley Review for their details and practicing Wiley Test Bank simulations now. Hopefully that will be enough.

I just failed REG again too. I used Becker the first two times and thought i was really ready the 2nd time around….the sims were easy but I realized my questions didn't get much harder. I just bought Ninja notes and Wiley Test bank. I'm thinking of studying for 3 weeks and taking a re-take so I don't get discouraged/forget things the longer I study. Any tips?

That is exactly what I am doing. I plan on taking it the 6th of April. I think pounding out the questions in Wiley will help a ton. Since they are fresh questions I have never seen it will prevent me from getting questions right due to a memory miss. I have already figured out I need to know AMT better from the Wiley questions alone. I picked up the Becker audio lectures (Becker does not sell these. They are just the videos from the program and converted into MP3) so I can listen to them on my phone while I work.

Honestly I think adding the wiley test bank will help a ton. I have notice areas where becker tests more and wiley tests more. So by combining the two should be a pretty good combo.

Well i'm glad i'm not the only one about to study like a madman for the next 3 weeks. I failed as well, used Becker, Ninja Notes and Wiley Test bank but did not get as much studying done as i should have. The test wasn't completely hard i just need to drill into the areas i was weaker in. Good luck to everyone on your retakes!

If you're scoring in the 90s on Becker and failing the exam, I think it's time to mix up your study material. It seems like you might have memorized the Becker questions without really understanding the material. If you get a new batch of questions to study from, that should help you adapt to any “curveballs” that might come up on the exam itself.

Just found out I got a 74, too. I'm here with you, man.

    Feels bad, man. Feels bad.

EDIT: Not to hijack the thread, but I could use some advice.

I'm not working for the next month and a half. So I have a large allotted time to bang out these exams. My original goal (if I passed) was to take Audit on April 1 and BEC on Apr 22. But now that I've failed REG… I'm wondering… should I just use up the rest of this month and try to solidify my REG passing? I feel like 17+ days of REG studying is excessive and I wish I could use it towards a new subject… but… yea…

    Any advice?

    FAR: 50, 76!

    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

Yes, stay with REG, you are so close to passing and you don't want to lose any the knowledge that you have by letting too much time pass on this section. That's what I did when I did not pass BEC on the 1st try, and the second time was the charm. Good luck!

I am with all of you too. I made a 68. I used Yaeger, went through the material two more times after my first attempt with a 64. Memorized numerous formulas, AMT, Estate Tax, Gift Tax, etc. none of which was on my exam. I have the wiley test bank and NINJA notes and just plan on using Jeff's 20 day plan to pass. I really want to pass this exam as we all do. I called a friend for support and she suggested that maybe this is not the right path for me….I don't want to believe that….although I have been studying for 3 years straight.

I had to share. I got two consecutive 74's in Regulation and I thought that my world was about to end. Two 74s back to back. I eventually passed with an 86. For my third bout with Regulation I used the Ninja Audio and Ninja notes. I listened to the Ninja Audio during my commute to and from work. I also started studying like I was starting from scratch. Since I had memorized the questions offered by my review course, I focused on the Wiley Online Test bank and took loads of notes. I believe that the Wiley Test bank helped me pass because the test bank has a variety of questions. Regulation, for me, was the hardest test. I passed all of the other tests on the first try. Also, make sure that you do the SIMS practice. Some people overlook the SIMS practice which I think is not a good idea. Stick with it, and you will get it.

@Wizards Good Call on the memorization theory! I can attest to the fact that inadvertently memorizing test bank MCQs pads your stats and sets you up to fail…hence my 68 on audit on 2/25/13!

Memorization won't cut it on REG, repetition on sims I think is the best way to learn the concepts behind the tax side REG. For example, once you can do AMT, shareholder basis, and 1231 gain on the back of a napkin at lunch, you will be in the drivers seat! I will say though that mass memorization for the law component of REG is totally acceptable. Let's be honest we are not here to become attorneys so do what you've gotta do to regurgitate the law portion and save your real brain power for the tax side.

You are SO close, best of luck on your rematch!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
