Fail REG and then passed–what changed?

    Hi,

So I’m studying for REG and I’m just not feeling too confident with it. I’m using Becker and I want to ask the people who failed REG why they think they did? And then, if you passed it later on, what made the difference for you that next time? I feel like for me Becker’s MCQ are toughest when they are wordier (harder to follow) and Becker’s Sims are fair, but I just need more studying to master them completely. I get tripped up with the nitty gritty details involved in tax and law…

If anyone has advice from their own experiences, I’d really appreciate it!

    Best luck studying,

    Jeff

I failed REG twice and passed on the third try. The difference maker for me was the Wiley test bank and NINJA notes/ audio. For the test bank I did ENDLESS MC questions. Literally until I could not look at another question with out wanting to hurl. For nearly every question, but every question I got wrong, I took the time to dive in and understand why it was wrong, what made the right answer right and took notes on it. You can imagine the notes I had after doing the ENTIRE Testbank twice. Then I typed all the notes, they were hand written the first time, and used that as a study guide.

For the audio I listened to that nonstop for a month. At work, in the car, at the gym, walking the dogs, you name it if I could have it playing I did. I also re-wrote the NINJA notes two or three times. I devoted literally my entire life to REG for a little over a month. I could repeat the NINJA notes/audio in my sleep. I was to the point that I could read a question and tell you exactly what the right answer was and why without even looking at the answer. Dedication to REG and the realization that it was really hard for me and that I needed to give it the extra time, dedication and a little piece of my soul made the difference. 🙂

52- I did lil bit of studying here and there

but i wasn't really putting 100% of my effort to it.

my nts was expiring so i had to take it

i solved R1-R4 mcq once and read textbook

    79- I studied almost everyday for 2-3weeks

solved all the becker mcq at least three times

have my own notes/ read it constantly

    put 100% effort!

(but i'm still surprised that i got 79, i honestly thought i failed cause i did a horrible job in the sim)

I went from a 72 to an 87. How? I followed the plan for NINJA notes the 2nd time around (read 5 times, wrote once). I also spent much more time reading my Wiley book. The last 10-14 days I spent rewriting notes on problem areas for me. Twice a day. Everyday. I did a ton of MCQs both times through, but I felt like the reading and rewriting was what really helped boost my score. I studied for 5 weeks my second time around. No videos or lectures. All Wiley book, NINJA Notes and Flashcards, and Wiley test bank. Good luck!
