AnonymousInactiveMaybe I’m just a moron and am now realizing why I have received a 71, 70, and 74 on REG the last 3 times I have taken it. This freaking website is absurd! The questions are way more in-depth than Becker and seem to me to be very challenging; lots of minor details and exceptions to the rules, at least for tax.
Has anyone else used this and felt the same way? I am going through Becker again and supplementing it with CPA excel as well as this site. Hopefully I get it this time!!!!!

ROACHMemberHow is this site for FAR?
Right now I'm in the beginning stages of Yaeger.. barely module 9. Will complete module 9 tomorrow (Wednesday) and work MCQ (Thursday.. maybe Friday too) on the Wiley book.
For those that used this site… when did you start to incorporate the questions… towards the end? or just whenever you felt like it to practice more MCQ?

HazeEastwoodParticipantEPRESOGNA, when I failed REG, I got really pissed off. I got even more pissed when I realized I missed all those questions Yaeger assigned. Because I felt like I failed REG I studied like a beast for AUD and the rematch with REG. Truth be told, I usually studied just enough to where I felt I knew enough to pass. I went into over drive with REG and AUD. With that being said, there is no real way to prepare for the SIMs but I will say this, practice the Wiley REG SIMs. They gave me good practice for taking the information I learned and applying it to a REG SIM. Also, I believe the WIley software SIMs for REG are harder than the book SIMS

AnonymousInactiveI appreciate the insight. Do you happen to know how much Wiley costs? I currently use Becker and am supplementing with CPA Excel, which so far, has very similar questions to Becker. I got both study software packages for free so I wouldn't mind paying for Wiley. Like you said, I am going into overdrive!

rknight21Participantwiley cost about $99 off the back but there is a certain CPA site that gives out a $20 coupon code that allows you to get it for $79

jeffKeymasterI sell the Wiley software for $87, which gives you a full year.
I don't sell the 4 month version ($79) because I wanted people to be protected in case they didn't pass. If you buy the software in December…take the exam in January and get your failing score in April – you have to buy new software.
The $87 version is the way to go.

AnonymousInactiveI would buy it from another71 just out of support as I think this site is great! There is literally NO WAY I am failing REG again.
Do you know if Wiley has more in-depth tax related questions? Becker is very good, but doesn't get really technical in regards to Corp taxation. I'm talking like sims and multiple choice that relate to built-in gains taxation, AAA S Corp questions (detailed ones), Accum E&P in depth questions, 1245 and 1250 rules, and simulations that involve formation, contribution, and distribution from C Corps, Partnerships, and S Corps. I got burned on my last REG test as distributions from an S Corp (mainly property with appreciated and depreciated value) were not covered very well in Becker. Some estate and gift tax sims would also be nice!

AnonymousInactiveEpresogna—I am starting to think we had the same exam experience(probably the same sims!) based on the items you want covered that Becker came up short on. All of those items burned me—felt like I had Becker down pat but got hit with some relatively foreign looking sims. I definitely don't plan to sit for REG again after Aug either—you and me will probably study ourselves sick in August until the 26th. You said you've failed it 3 times now? did you put in a lot of study time each attempt or were some of your retakes merely a brief cram? Just trying to mentally prepare for how much of a beast this exam might be…. I have two more attempts at this(but really really really only want to take it one more time) before I lose FAR, and basically AUD too…I feel like my august attempt will be my best chance at this thing. Same boat you and I—upset as heck that we failed, retake late august, becker/wiley combo, FAILURE NOT AN OPTION!

AnonymousInactiveBaked, we probably did have the same exam sims! I am focusing this time around on, well, everything, especially ins and outs of Corps, Partnerships, and S Corps. Estate and Gift taxation is the only area I feel weak in and I know I probably missed some multiple choice in this area (I remember two questions on gen skipping tax…wtf!) I also have a feeling an installment sale might be a sim this time around (had a dream about it; how sad) which I have down pretty well. When I got the 71, I only put about 1 month and a week and didn;t have the whole realized, recognized, and basis items down. The 70 the 2nd time was a result of the 2011 changes which I did not prepare for and blew through the sims. The 74 is just bad luck (granted I only gave myself 4 weeks) and not MASTERING taxation of Companies. I think mastering means not only understanding it well enough to get the same, or at least similar questions right in Becker 90% of the time, but rather trying to trick yourself into taking a problem you got right and flipping it 3 to 4 ways (if a question asks you for basis, know what the gain would be to the s/h, the Corp, E&P effect, etc.). I think with REG, a solid 6 to 8 months is enough time, given that we have already taken it and gotten really close.
I lose AUD Nov 30, so I would have 1 more chance after this, but I refuse to let it come to that. Goal is an 85 this time around! Good luck and keep posting any topics or questions that you come across during your studies that may help us pass this bitch!

AnonymousInactive6-8 months!? you mean weeks right? haha, if not then I am in deep trouble! Good luck to you, I am sure we will be seeing each other around here before exam day.

AnonymousInactiveYes, 6 to 8 weeks, sorry!
To CLARIFY, I dreamt about as installment sale sim! The S Corp and other topics I need clarification on just means there were various topics covered on the test that I felt I needed more preparation in these areas. The AICPA clearly states that these topics I mentioned are part of the regulation exam. They may or may not have been on the test in great detail, or at all; I just feel I need more practice. When I mentioned “I got burned on my last REG test as distributions from an S Corp (mainly property with appreciated and depreciated value) were not covered very well in Becker,” I was trying to convey that S Corporations were covered lightly in Becker and I think are an important aspect to understand and in not understanding that as well as I should, it may or may not have affected my final score.
For the record, I remember NOTHING about any past REG exam, or any other CPA exam for that matter!!!!
