Business Law on REG exam - Page 2

For those of you that have passed REG in the last 6 months (yes, I only want to hear from those that passed), how would you rate the difficulty of the business law questions on the exam? I just finished watching the lecture for Becker’s chapter 6, which is Commercial Paper, Secured Transactions, and Suretyship & Creditor Rights. The material in this chapter makes me want to stab my eyeball with this red ink pen!

It is so difficult to grasp and I am just curious how tough the questions are on the real exam? I am okay with Contracts and Sales, and the last two chapters in the book don’t appear to be that difficult, but this crap with drafts, holder in due course, endorsements, and PMSI really sucks.

Somebody please tell me it isn’t that bad on the exam! I will gladly master corporate tax, partnerships, and the rest of the book, just not this stuff!

    B - 80 (10/06/11)
    A - 84 (01/03/12)
    R - 81 (02/16/12)
    F - 82 (11/23/11)

    Thank you Jesus!

Business Law 17-21% of the exam? LAUGH OUT LOUD. 50+% of my test was business law. How does that happen? Cheers to another donation. Prob the last time I attempt

Knoxman, hang in there. You don't have your score yet, do you? I don't know how many times I have read people on this message board state that they thought they bombed REG – were SURE of it – and then find out later that they passed, lots of times with great scores. Here's hoping you did better than you think.

    BEC - 88
    AUD - 74, 87
    REG - 77
    FAR - 63, 82

@Knoxman I am taking REG tomorrow would you suggest I practice B LAW SIMS?

Took reg twice (first time got a 74) and I would say b law was maybe 10 percent. Any questions would be covered in Becker flashcards, not very in depth or detailed. Big picture items

I think people forget about the Sims when they say business law is 50% of the exam. Especially when mixing in professional responsibilities which combined with business law is 35-40% of the exam, for most of us 40% of the exam were more than likely all tax (have never heard of a Blaw sim). With that, one should expect about half of the MCQs to be business law/prof. Responsibilities related, doesn't mean it's half the exam.

    MBA,CMA,CPA, CFF?, ABV?

Considering the MCQ and SIMS are worth 60 and 40 points respectively, and considering business law and professional ethics are weighted 40% together according to the AICPA, and also assuming there won't be any of that content tested on the SIMS, then one can expect to see 48 out of 72 MCQ asking law/ethics questions. Although this is mathematically correct we all know that a CPA exam score does not reflect a percentage correct and God knows they show mercy on SIMS. What I do know is that FAR was the first exam I took and I knew damned well not to blow off Govt and NFP just because it's “only 20%” I remember that there were a ton of Govt/NFP MCQ and without the extra time I spent studying I wouldn't have stood a chance.

@Bad- I hope you passed your REG exam. BLaw is difficult for me since I have my experience in tax and public accounting. So I am spending quite a bit of time reading the BLaw topics in the book and taking my time answering all of the BLaw questions. I'm planning to study all of the tax stuff after BLaw. I studied and passed all of the EA exams last year, so I'm hoping that will help me with the tax side of REG.

Business law seems like a foreign language at first, but after practicing enough it really becomes quite easy compared to tax. I think it's worth studying business law enough to fully understand it, as I think it is possible to ace these questions. I know it's hard to master everything, but I felt that I did excellent on my blaw questions which certainly gave me a huge boost!

    Audit(11/5/13) - 89
    Reg(5/16/14) - 86
    FAR(7/18/14) - 82
    BEC(11/14) - 85
