BLAW is Bringing me Down - Page 2

I have seen plenty of threads on this, but wanted to see some more recent reactions.

How do the REG takers feel about BLAW. Becker covers so much material. I’m getting high 80s to mid 90s on 30 pt progress tests. But thats because they are almost all Tax questions. I feel pretty good about the TAX except for some obscure trust/estate stuff. BLAW really brings me down. I did way worse when I redid the homework for these topics(65-80) than for TAX (80-95). It’s just so much to absorb. I’m testing Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I’m coming off a recent AUD fail and would love to have a bounce back test.

With 5 days to go what would you do? (I can put about 40 hours in the next 5 days)

Focus on those minute tax details in the hopes of nailing the SIMS or just spend time on BLAW and keep running overall progress tests?

    Do longer Progress tests?

Learn to stop worrying and love the bomb?

Any thoughts, suggestions, comments are appreciated.

    Thank you Kimberoni!

DoOVer You've got this! Don't let it get you down. Take a break from it, and come back. That's what I keep doing with BLaw, although it isn't pretty!

Let's hope we get Chn's test (assuming they meant the Tax was worse than Blaw)

    REG - Passed
    BEC - Passed
    AUD - Passed
FAR - Passed!!!! I have my life back.

@ Kimboroni: Ya I'm trying to put more emphasis on the Ethics portion. With Becker they give you 41 questions on that section and 857 question on the rest of the BLaw. Seems a bit skewed. I'm thinking of going to the IRS website and really digging into Circular 230 today. In your opinion would that be time well spent or wasted?

@Someday– thanks for the encouragement. Nothing to do but just keep on it until Wednesday and hope for the best. I have been hitting some 30 pt progress tests on R4-R8 and doing better. I may just be memorizing the questions at this point, but I make an effort to read through the answers to make sure I'm studying somewhat.

Circ 230 is pretty important, so if your review materials skim over the details too much, that sounds like a good idea.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

    @ Kimbroni,

-Thanks its only 44 pages so I'll just read the whole thing. Probably won't be able to read the entire AICPA professional standards though. Becker has so much other law stuff that its completely overwhelming me, even after spending some weeks on it. Seems silly to be stressing so much for only 20%, but I really need a pass.

I've only taken two tests, and they both made me feel like I studied for a different test. I'm sure REG will be just as brutal.

I appreciate your tips. Thanks again.

    @ DoOver

Yes i believe so. For BEC, as long as you are familiar with the material, you should be OK. this means that you probably need to do some memorizing job.

for REG, Becker did fine in outlining the materials. But the real exam didn't just test @ Becker material level. Things will be a lot different (and difficult) once they add in a mortgage, or something else. Or maybe it's just that I am not so good at tax subjects (which is strange because I got A in all my tax classes back in school…).

Glad I focused on the BLaw. I barely made it. I wish I had more tax on the exam, as I may have done better, but I guess it doesn't matter now.

@chnbsb… looks like you killed it! Good job.
