BLAW: How much to know?

I’m currently going over R-8 in Becker and I’m just so overwhelmed by the amount of detail in the BLAW chapters. Three freaking pages are dedicated to Regulation Crowdfunding and yet I haven’t seen a single MC on that topic in the Becker or Ninja MCQ’s. I have a week left until I take Reg and I’m honestly just wondering how much to really focus on this stuff.

I guess i’m just frustrated and feel like an idiot because I really thought the BLAW stuff would be easier to pick up but honestly some of the tax stuff is starting to look easier by comparison (that could just be because I’ve studied tax a whole lot more). Just looking for any advice/words of encouragement.

I mean – definitely know it. I took reg twice, and my first test I skimmed over it and ran out of time and failed. There was quite a few more business law on there than expected. Sim wise you'll be ok usually, but I would focus on ch 7 which i believe is contracts, agencies. My second time around I still had quite a bit business law, as well as circular 230, chapter 6 and some bankruptcy things too.

Do as many BLAW mcq's as you can and you'll be fine. IMO, practicing BLAW SIMS would be pointless because they're so subjective.

knowing blaw is like free points on the exam. Practicing those MCQ and understanding what you have wrong is helpful. If you are using Becker give the skills practice a shot. Peter Olinto's explanations are very helpful and those are actually better than the lectures in my opinion….

Know as much as possible. Knowing does not hurt if you have time to study. You never know with this exam. You might get nice a sim with BLaw's concept which could be the deciding factor in your passing. GOOD LUCK.

the BLAW questions are free points…don't loose out on those because imo, amidst all the tax questions, the blaw questions were a relief to see. Focus on the bigger topics like contracts, agencies, and bankruptcy. Most Blaw questions are simple and straightforward, and not very detailed.

I didn't have any BLAW sims on my exam but one of my friends luckily did!

I unfortunately didn't have time to study any BLAW and only made it to R6 I believe (the last chapter of tax before BLAW), and still ended up passing. But it did help to have gone through one busy season as a tax staff prior to taking the exam.

Honestly, if you can get the tax down confidently, you have a chance to pass without knowing any BLAW. But they are free points as mentioned above.

    Good luck!
