Looking to take one of these parts 1st week of Jan and want to get a head start. Becker 2014 materials wont ship until mid November. Can I use 2013 materials to study for 2014 exam? Does anyone know how much the exams are changing?

I want to say that REG only updates during July so you should be okay. Maybe someone else can confirm.

    B - 80 (Aug 2012)
    A - 89 (Jan 2013)
    F - 77 (May 2013)
    R - 83 (Nov 2013)

REG doesn't update until July, but the 2013 book doesn't have the 2013 numbers (although they are available online). If it bothers you to go online and print them off, I would advise taking BEC first.

You should be good to go with BEC, I took it and failed and then took it again 6 months later and passed. Nothing much changed in it at all. Cost Accounting, Economics, Finance Principals, etc. don't change so you should be in the clear.

The Becker Materials were the same aside from the addition of another section which was really splitting one of the old sections in two.

    BEC: (54), (72), 80 (losing credit on 02/02/15 - nervous)
    AUD: 78
    REG: (74), 91
    FAR: (71)

barelystayingsane, what do you mean by the update in July? The 2013 REG book isn't current for the 2013 test? If i take Reg this window using the 2013 book am i good to go or do I need anything additional? Thanks!

The first half of the year test on the previous year's tax law.

So Jan – June 2013 tested 2012 numbers. July – December tests on 2013.

    Same for 2014.

If you have July updates, you should be fine.

Of course, NINJAs don't have to worry about it because they get free updates until they pass 😉

@DK100 what Jeff said. So the 2013 book had the numbers for the first half of 2013 (i.e. the 2012 numbers). The 2013 numbers will be tested up to July 2014, so you will need to go online and print off the free update if you take it in this window. The 2014 book will have the 2013 numbers and will be applicable for the first half of 2014 until the online update comes out for the second half of 2014.

Thanks for clearing that up. Are these updates something that is tested or do I just need to know the concepts regardless of 2012 or 2013 tax law? (ie. if i studied the 2013 book without updates would I be lacking knowledge for the test? Can anyone provide a link as to where I can find the free update for Becker?

If you Google “Becker CPA updates,” you will find it. It's also been posted on numerous threads on the forum if you search around.
