I took REG today at 12:00 pm. My first attempt. Before the exam I took two full on practice exams and scored an 84 and an 82 so I was pretty confident. 1st testlet was easy, skipped 3 or 4 questions, then came back to fill in the my “best guess”. 2nd testlet was HORRENDOUS. Very long questions, with very long answers… And although my studies were in depth there were some concepts that I just dont remember seeing AT ALL. I mean not even a vague rememberance… Pretty sure I knew some of the answers but still got my a@# handed to me on that one… 3rd testlet was definitely easier than the second =(

Simulations were honestly not the bad, the subject matter was definitely stuff that I had studied. However, the way simulations are worded really irks me. There was one in particular that was just so ambiguous as to how to answer the question… Really hope that was one of the throw aways.

Overall, I feel I did well. Well enough to pass? Guess we will see… =)

When I passed BEC and FAR, I had the same experience on testlets like you: the second testlet was a beast, and the third easier. It does sound like you had a good experience. I have no idea why the sims are soooo crazy. The wording on them is exactly as you described. It is funny, because I didn't notice that at all on the sims for BEC or FAR.

Good to know that you did well in your exam. I am going to have mine on 25 Jan 2012. Can you give me some advice how you get through this exam. REG is a nightmare for me. I am using Becker but I score around 70 in each of the chapter. I fall terrible and not sure if I can pass it on my real exam.

I truly hope that you can share your experience of how you prepare your REG. I hope I can make a change in these 2 weeks.

I'm just wondering, whether you guys used Becker 2011 or 2012 for Reg? Is there a major difference? Are amounts specific to this particular tax year focused at all?

I'm not sure whether I should update to 2012 Becker, as I use Becker 2011 right now.

@ cpa001, I don't know if I'm comfortable giving advice when I don't know if I passed yet, Lol

But I did feel that supplementing my review course with the Wiley test bank really helped me. I did around 1500 MCQ's.

I also purchased the Ninja notes for REG and it helped me to focus my studies. There is so much material, I guess my best advice would be to take it one small part at a time and be comfortable with it before you move on.

I don't know how practical that is if you only have two more weeks, but it is what helped me to really understand the material.

I've never used Becker but if you are getting 70% on your practice MCQ's that sounds pretty good. If I were you, I would ask someone who has used Becker, what % they were getting before their exam.

@OnMyWaytoCPA – can you recall if you had more Law or did you have more calculations on the exam? I take my exam on Wednesday (1/18). I feel comfortable with individual taxation and partnerships, but totally not comfortable with sales, contracts, bankruptcy, and all that stuff! This is my last weekend so trying to jam in as much as I can…Thanks!

@ cyn637 , I definitely had more Law in the MCQ's, and if I remember correctly all Tax in my SIMS. So I would definitely try to get a handle on Business Law before your exam, but only because you never know what you're going to get. I've known many people to get exams heavily weighted in Tax. So for your best shot at passing, its best to be comfortable with both parts of REG
