I was wondering how well I should know AMT for the REG exam. It is so long and complicated and I don’t want to waste study time if it isn’t heavily tested. For anyone who has taken REG- did you a lot of AMT questions on your exam??

We aren't allowed to disclose if there were any amt questions on our exams. Sorry

ppl who took it are prolly not gonna tell you since they aren't allow. Besides, everyone has different testlet. what they get might not be what you get. I'm also studying for REG and I don't want to study AMT either. I feel you. But I will just say its better to be safe than sorry?

I wasn't asking for the questions, I was merely asking if it is something I should spend time studying. Maybe the way I worded it was poor, but I know that we aren't allowed to disclose anything so I wouldn't want anyone to. I just want to know if it is a heavily tested topic or not because it will take a good chunk of time to master and I don't want to waste time on something that only has a 5 or 10% chance of being tested.

I wouldn't spend too much time on it. I know a lot of questions on ninja surround preference , adjustment, and other items. I would just have a general idea where you could make an educated guess on something. Don't waste time memorizing how to calculate it. Don't forget you get the irc on sims that you can use.

I didn't memorize many calculations like that. Cause mc tend not to ask you to do a whole problem, see ninja, and I used the IRC word for word. Just have a good grasp/idea

I took REG yesterday and was in the same boat. AMT was the absolute last thing I made sure I knew just because I figured for how complicated it is compared to the likelihood of it being tested heavily didn't correlate well. By the time my test came around I just made sure I was familiar enough with the basics to make good educated guesses for MCQs and prayed I wouldn't get a sim on AMT.

I haven't taken REG yet but I've heard that memorizing the PANIC TIMME from Becker is important. Its more about recognition than anything else, i.e if the question gives you a number of items, can you recall which ones need to be added back to calculate AMTI.

Agree with @emmaferr I basically just made sure I knew PANIC TIMME as it seemed like most questions were based around that.

    BEC - 80 - 1/4/16

Can someone tell me what the PANIC TIMME is? I'm not using Becker. Thanks!

    thanks @jgootz421.

PANIC TIMME is something used to remember the adjustments for AMT for individuals.

    Passive Activity Losses

    Accelerated Depreciation

    Net Operating Loss

    Installment Income

Contracts- percentage completion v. completed contract

    Tax Deductions

Interest deductions on some home equity loans

Medical deductions- adjust for 65 and over so it is 10% of AGI, not 7.5%

Miscellaneous itemized deductions subject to 2% floor

    Exemptions and standard deduction
