I’m updating my “2013” becker textbook that was shipped to me last November and realized the medical expense is 10% now for 2013. In my textbook, one of the AMT adjustments is “medical expense must exceed 10% AGI rather than 7.5% AGI. Is this eliminated in 2013? What’s going on

I was also wondering this. I haven't seen anything about changes to the medical expense portion of AMT, so I'm assuming it is no longer an adjustment for taxpayers under the age of 65. However, for taxpayers 65 and older, it will still be an adjustment.

@k1zuna & @mattz13, I was wondering the same last night but checked the Becker updates and there is no update on this statement. So i guess, for AMT adjustments: medical expense must exceed 10% AGI rather than 7.5% AGI.

Do you guys try to memorize all phase out amounts? I was wondering if I should start a list..?

    FAR - Apr 2013 - PASSED
    REG - Oct 2013 - PASSED
    AUD - Apr 2014 - PASSED

No way am I memorizing the phase out amounts! Those are just too many numbers to memorize and keep track of which phase out goes with which deduction/credit/etc., especially when there are numbers for single, MFJ, HofH, etc. I'm just memorizing what has a phase out, but not the amount.

The only phase outs I memorized are for the traditional deductible IRA and the mom and pop exception for rental real estate. Hopefully that's enough!
