American Opportunity vs Lifetime Learning Credits

    So I am going through the REG material and was wondering why anyone would choose to take the Lifetime Learning credit over the American Opportunity credit? American Opportunity allows up to $2.500 PER STUDENT and could be refundable where as Lifetime Learning allows only $2,000 and not refundable. I know you can only choose to use one per return so any one have any thoughts on this matter?
