Advice on study plan

I need some input on what my plan of attack should be for REG, as I’m sure a lot of you have been in my same shoes before.

I work in public, and tax season is…well, nuts. My original plan was to take REG end of the May, which should give me a good solid 6 weeks of study after tax season ends. I was also going to hit the books throughout tax season, with what little free time I have, just to familiarize myself with the content (read a few chapters, do some MCQs, etc). I look at it as an added bonus.

Let’s be real, there’s a good chance I wouldn’t be able to retain a lot of that info, but it might make my 6-week study plan a little bit easier if I’m familiar with some of those topics already.

Would that be beneficial, or would I just be wasting my time? Should I just forget about studying altogether during tax season, and try to keep my sanity?

It’s been almost three weeks since I opened my REG book, and it’s kind of odd. I feel like I’m slacking off. I’m worried that on one hand, if I just focus on tax season, it will be really hard to get into study mode afterwards for those six weeks. On the other hand, tax season is crazy, what little time I do have wouldn’t really be focused studying, more just like skimming through the material.

    What say you?!

Or, since I’ll be taking FAR in August, maybe I could just skim through that content over the next few months to become familiar with some of those topics.

    Decisions, decisions…

    BEC: Passed
    AUD: Passed
    REG: Passed
    FAR: Passed

I think you read my mind because I was just going to open a thread about a study plan… But by reading your post, I think you can take REG in May… Material is not hard… Plus you'll be practicing it… I think you can take that challenge.

    B - 62, 70, 72, 79!!!
    A - 68, 81
    R - 70, 82
    F - 84

I think the 6 weeks will be enough, but if you really want to get a head start and feel strange not studying, then maybe do something small like review a couple of flashcards each day or start reading a little. You should have plenty of time to study afterwards, so it's ok to focus on tax season right now. If you're afraid you'll lose being in study mode, then keep it up a little bit at a time.

I took BEC last August and then when I didn't pass I didn't take it again until the end of November because I didn't really study much during Sept-Oct (and we had hurricane extension for certain things until 10/31 I think) because of tax season.
