    How bad is a 66 on REG? Was I really that far away from a 75? The break down is as follows:

    Ethics = Stronger

    Business Law = Weaker

    Federal Tax Process = Comparable

    Taxation on Property = Weaker

    Taxation on Individuals = Comparable

    Taxation on Entities = Weaker

    MC = Weaker

    SIMS = Weaker

    Also why is my individual performace as a % is not stated and compared to the Passing Candidate Performance?

    Or it could just be an example of the Law of Large numbers… With so many test takers, it's likely that the test scores will come back to the average. How likely would it be that with the thousands upon thousands of test takers that take the test each period, all of them would either be able to pass it 80% of the time or 20% of the time? I'm going to say EXTREMELY unlikely. I think the statistical calculation of past test takers which determines the difficulty and scoring of each question is what determines “the curve”.

    Passing rates between 40% and 53% is actually quite a large range given the amount of test takers each window. I completely agree with @cardinal regarding the law of large numbers. In fact, I mentioned something similar in a discussion a few months back:

    You are definitely NOT compared to other test takers within the same window. With three score release periods and random percentages of people passing from quarter to quarter, that explanation just doesn't make any sense.

    I think this partially goes back to accepting the responsibility for not passing the exam. You cant blame review courses, you cant blame the curve, you cant blame the AICPA or NASBA or Prometric. It really comes down to whether or not you were properly prepared entering the exam.

    Study for your retake as if you're taking it for the first time. Unfortunately, you're nowhere near a passing grade.

    The CPA is a serious designation. All I am convinced of now is that Becker, Wiley books, and Wiley online is the way to go. If I don't pass it will be because I need to work on time management because my materials were adequate.

    My rule is not to take the exam until I truly have all areas covered. I find the questions so tricky that without a very good understanding of a particular concept, I would trip too many times to pass. Kind of like learn how to drive very well on regular roads on a sunny day because te exam will take you through some winding, twisty path during a snow storm. 🙂
