Im planning on retaking it end of May since I’m pretty busy right now with busy season. I originally took the test with Yaeger but now I’m switching to Becker 2nd time around (since my employer is paying for it). Any tips or words of wisdom for my second go at REG? Any study tips or exam tips are greatly appreciated!

And can you believe that's your score after the curve?? LOL!

Anyways, the best advice is… do lots of practice questions! If you listened to Phil and did only his assigned questions and nothing else, then that score doesn't surprise me.

The main thing is…. don't give up. You're half way there!

This freaks me out (and it's not my happening, baby). Can you tell us what your method was? Did you only do assigned questions? A person who can get an 81 on one section getting a 51 on another scares the life out of me. I'm hoping my study method that worked on one will work on all four, because I don't have the money to spend taking it again. Do you have any advice about what specifically doesn't work for REG that does for other sections?

    AUD - 88
    FAR - 90
    REG - 85
    BEC - 88

see my first REG score (or for that matter, my first AUD score) below.

Approach it like you've never studied for it or taken it before. Whatever you gave it before, give twice as much this time and don't rely on what you've already studied as a false sense of security that you're halfway or 2/3 of the way there. Wash it from your mind and start fresh!

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

haha i think i was just intimidated by taxes to begin with..like i already lost before i even started kind of thing. i did more studying than i did questions. i got too complacent getting questions right that the lectures went over (well DUH! the answer was already explained so of course ill get it right). im pretty excited (weird) to get another chance w different course since Becker will probably give a different approach and delivery for the REG material..oh and the best part was, i started taking the test and the clock started from 3 hours…i definitely thought it was 4 hours. FAIL! (pun intended)

I understand exactly what you mean. I was so scared of Audit I spent 4 months on it. Luckily, I've done some tax so I'm really hoping AUD was as bad as it gets for me, because oh my gosh, it was semi-apocalyptic. And starting out with one hour less than you thought, I don't know how you kept from a meltdown right then and there, complete with screaming, ripping those headphones to tiny bits, and tearing the entire testing center apart. Thanks so much for answering. I'm sure it'll be a lot better experience next time.

    AUD - 88
    FAR - 90
    REG - 85
    BEC - 88

Reading the subject line, I'm reminded of the scene in “A Christmas Story” where Santa says “You'll shoot your eye out, kid!” and imagine Santa's foot with a 51 on the sole.

Of course you'll whip REG easily when you get the chance. Don't give up.

Just do MCQ's until you puke. Then clean up the mess. Then do more MCQ's.

Wow, I would have lost if I saw there was an hour less than I intended. I'm making a big note to myself to check the time allowance for each test before I begin studying! 🙂

Good luck, I am just starting to study for REG … I'm sure you'll pull through- especially since you did well in the others.

@dsal, uggggh. I know the feeling! Scored a 59 my first attempt on REG. Studied for another 4 weeks—scored a 60.. A one freaking point increase! My advice is to literally study like you've never studied for REG before! Do the Becker MCQ twice. Make sure you have the ancillary material down (if you're using Becker 2011). If you're using Becker 2012 that ancillary is made into it's own chapter (chapter 8). Note taking helped me a lot for REG as well, I also rewrote them

    AUD 81 (X4) Previous scores 59, 72, 72
    REG 80 (X3) Previous scores 59, 60
    FAR 75 (X2) Previous score 67
    BEC 79 (X2) Previous score 58
