Does anyone know (or better yet actually had this experience) if its possible to get a “stronger” rating on the mcq, but a “weaker” rating on the sims, and still pass the REG exam?

Hey Scootter, anything is possible.

I read your thread about the frustrating experience you had, and I can totally relate. Only with FAR.

I ran out of time and put all 0's in 4 (FOUR!) SIMS. I ended up with a 74, which was impressively close to passing.

But I freaked out and analyzed, over-analyzed, and drove myself crazy the days building up to score release day. I just knew I failed, but then, I'd get a sense of hope, then back to despair. It could have gone either way.

I know you only get one retake if if you don't get that elusive 75+ before your BEC expires. But try not to stress. The grading process is so complex, you just can't guess. One thing that could help your frustration is just looking over your notes as you wait for your score. Not necessarily studying, but something to know, if you don't get a pass, you at least won't start from square one.

But, based on your preparation, I think you'll have a story similar to many others.

Tough SIMS, a feeling of failure, then a surprising PASS! 🙂 Keep your hopes high.

Thanks for your encouraging words. I do tend to view my test performances pessimistically, but I just can't see how completely blowing one SIM (probably zero points), while only getting likely 50-75% on the others (and probably the research question correct), can get me to a passing score. I'm sure there will be some consideration given to the fact that most of them were difficult/out from left field SIMS, that most have struggled with, but still, I don't think there's much chance. I do love these stories though, posted by people who thought they completely bombed the SIMS, who miraculously passed, some even with high scores. It gives me some hope, however misguided it might be.

Scooter, I think that I did really well on the BEC MCQs and was weaker on its SIMs and still passed. I do not know for sure since the State of Delaware doesn't give performance reports when you pass but I really stuggled with the essays in BEC and am sure that I blew one of them.

I read that if you received a borderline score on BEC, your score release will be delayed by up to a week so they can manually grade your SIMs. However, my borderline score of 76 was released on time with all of the other scores. This leads me to believe that they didn't need to manually score my SIMs because I did well enough on the MCQs to overcome weak performance on them.

I feel like I bombed MCQ and nailed Sims… Going to be a long wait for scores.

Anything is possible. The grading is a secret. I felt lost on most of the SIMS on FAR, felt good on about 2 of them, very unsure of the MCQs and passed. Oh, and no clue on the research question, btw. I had enough time to go back and look at it again and still no clue. The AICPA says the tests are not curved but it's hard to believe.

On REG, felt pretty good on the Mcq's and a couple of the SIMs. Certainly not all. I think you *can* get a 0 on at least one SIM and pass.

You're taking the Delaware exam too? I think you are the only person I have seen from DE on this site. I just recently moved to PA but am taking the DE exam because I passed FAR before I moved and am just going to apply for reciprocity for both states when I pass and get my license. Anyway, just thought it was cool that we are both taking the DE exams. That state is so small, it's funny to meet someone else from there lol

@kreibsome08 – Yes, I am taking it in the great state of Delaware. I've lived in Pennsylvania all of my life but have worked in DE since 1998. The main reason that I chose to apply in DE and not PA is that DE's experience requirements seem a little looser and don't require auditing financial statements.
