Took REG yesterday and like everyone else I don’t know if I passed. I used Becker and WTB to prepare. This was my last part and scored in the 80s/90s on the first three parts. Without being specific, I was astounded by how much of my exam tested obscure topics that were barely covered in the review materials or were absent from the review materials. Whereas entire sections of review material went untested. What is the point of this testing approach? How does this help the profession? Honestly, it seems like more of a disservice to the profession. Very important and relevant topics should be the ones most highly tested. What a joke! Especially when someone puts in months of hard work! Time for the score release lottery.

I felt the same way and was 100% sure I failed REG. I think the pre test questions or whatever the hell they are called are the really obscure ones.

My college professor says that the work of an examiner is to collect a sample that will provide reasonable assurance. You cannot test anyone on everything, and even the great professors we've had would probably fail if that was the case.

For that reason, AICPA must use a careful sample technique that will statistically create a uniform examination, even though they suggest that the same person may pass one exam and fail the same exam with a different sample of questions.

But the prepared student will pass any exam no matter how many different questions are sampled, i.e. the trials.

How does one prepare for questions that are not covered in review materials?

There is definitely an element of luck with these exams. It is not enough to study100+ hours.

I took REG yesterday also. I feel the exact same as the OP. I was VERY prepared. I could answer every question in the Wiley book or test-bank. The exam I took yesterday came out of left-field.

The topics were obscure, but was was worse was that the answer choices used obscure wording, so even if I knew the answer, I had difficulty determining which answer choice was correct due to the intentionally poor wording. I even had one question that had a grammatical error…Reallly????

With FAR and BEC, I thought the exams were tough, but fair. REG was just all over the place. I honestly do not think that it was a fair exam.

As for the sims? well, I thought they were very fair except for the research question. The research question was just so vague, I had difficulty finally narrowing down the section. If I do pass it will be due to good performance on the sims.

I felt like I failed BEC, but ended up passing with my best score to date. When I took FAR I thought that I nailed it. Literally walked out of the testing center expecting to pass with a 90+…ended up with a 79.

These exams just make no sense whatsoever…If I do end up passing REG, I will of course be ecstatic, but at the same time I will have to shake my head…Such an emotional roller-coaster. I really pray for this process to be over so I can get back to living a normal life…

@Charlie & Spartan… same experience this morning.

I was very prepared. I've has probably close to 300 study hours and I knew almost every multiple choice question in the books. The test MCQ just did not seem fair at all. Not sure what happened but we all got the short stick on this one. I am praying just for a 75.

I had a SIM question that was not in my study materials. I was familiar with it purely from experience. The rest of the SIMs were over topics I was prepared for. What is it they say about the pretest SIM and MC questions? They throw out 5 MC and 1 SIM?

@6silver I was under the impression that for one of the 4 hour exams, at least one SIM is pretest and 15 MCQs are pretest. I may be wrong (probably am), but I imagine that one SIM on REG is pretest as well as the same percentage of MCQs since it's only 72

In hindsight, I now recognize a few of the pretest questions. I think they were the ones that confused me the most!!

How would you recognize a pretest question? All questions were once a pretest question. Right?
