Hi friends!

My REG exam is in a couple of days but I have not had an opportunity to study enough (work and kids). Anyway I need to increase the odds and focus on the most heavily tested areas – what could that be? Bluenprints with their %% are too broad.
I’ve examined this forum but have not managed to find your suggestions on the topic. There should be some accumulated experience in this: e.g. for FAR we recommend to focus on government accounting, for BEC: IT and COSO and cost accounting. What are the main topics in REG?

And – one more thing – the examiners may like to test recent changes in law. Could you please direct me where to read about those main changes happened recently and already tested?

wow you have some impressive scores!! maybe you don't need to study for REG LOL. I barely got by on REG with a 75—studied about 50 hours, but do taxes for living. My exam was 70/15/15 being tax, bus law, and ethics. That was just my version I got. All the SIMS were tax and challenging to some degree.

I used Roger and did a handful of the questions and listened to some lectures. I just remember REG just felt like a “tax” exam more than anything. I don't remember much details, the exam was 730AM and I got like 2 hours of sleep b/c it was right after 4/15 deadline. Best of luck!

Did you take the exam in q3? Also, just wondering but do you practice in all areas of tax?

I'm an Enrolled Agent and I'm currently studying for REG. It just seems much more detailed than the EA was.

I took in Q2 of 2017. I practice in all areas of Tax except Gift and Estate. I would have done better than a 75 but only put in 50 hours or so. I had to take in right after 4/15 deadline so I had very little time to study. I actually thought the exam was pretty detailed when it came to Tax- the MCQ and SIMS for sure. I was expecting a cake walk but it was far from it. I think my 10 years in tax helped AND the time I studied was efficient.

In my 50 hours I studied I did NOT count the NINJA audio that ran while I slept 7 hours a night for around 40-50 hours in total.

I'll keep the idea of sleeping with Ninja in mind if i fail (not sure my wife will be happy though).
So what are the tax legislation changes that you believe may be tested this quarter?

@ankalan to get the most of your time don't study b law it's less than 10% of the mcq and no sims. not violating disclosure, that's their guideline.

If anyone studies for REG now, or have passed and are kind enough to share experience, please add below the material changes in tax legislation that have happened within the last 1-2 years (=very likely to be tested), e.g.:
– Filing deadlines have changed (s corp and partners to file on March 15, C corps on April 15)
– Bonus depreciation on equipment 50%, and in 2018 – 40%, om 2019 – 30%
– Regulation A totally changed (2 tiers, 20 and 50 mln)
– …?
