REG Exam – not sure what to think

Hey everyone – for anyone who has taken and passed REG, has anyone felt that their exam questions were too “easy”? I can’t stop thinking about this since I took my exam and it’s driving me nuts. My exam didn’t get any harder from the first testlette through the third and the SIMs weren’t too bad, minus the broad instructions to complete the task. But I don’t know if that’s because I actually bombed the exam or if I knew my stuff.

I’ve sat for 3 exams prior to REG, and I understand the whole “if you think you did bad, you probably passed” type of outlook all too well. Has anyone thought the questions were “easy” and passed before? What about the testlettes? Is it true that they should get harder? Does that happen in the majority of cases?

Sorry I’m asking such a stupid question – but I wanted to get other’s feedback on this. 7 more days until score release!! ahh.

When I passed FAR I got a lot of conceptual questions, “easy” calculations and SIMS were manageable. I thought it was way easier than my previous attempts. Turns out I just knew my stuff because I got an 81.

‘Ello! I think you should put your doubts behind you and believe that you passed. Right after getting out of my REG exam I kept telling my coworkers “welps, ready for round 2 of REG, I definitely failed”. No one was telling me, “Oh I'm sure you passed”. I think I was so convinced I failed that I convinced everyone around me, too XD

So, I did not think the MCQs were easy. They just weren't “complex”. Which means 99% of the time you either knew the answer or you didn't. This wasn't a guessing game and it really tested your memory skills.

But by all means the testlet did not appear to change difficulty. I kept thinking “am I getting 3 easys? maybe 3 mediums? they're definitely not hard”.

The SIMs were vague sometimes, too. Like it didn't tell me if it wanted amounts after reducing certain limitations (for example, I didn't actually get this on the exam), and other important things like that. I really felt like I had to assume one or the other. In the end, since the question didn't ask for “the certain limitation”, I didn't calculate it.

I thought for sure I got in the 60s. But as you can see, my score really surprised me.

    BEC - PASS (79)
    AUD - PASS (63, 71, 74, 74, 83)

NJ I think I posted this somewhere else, but that is exactly how my FAR experience went, like exactly. I am happy for you and know you did well!

I have never been on the side of “thinking I did horrible then passing”. So this is not fun and I don't want to make any assumptions.

hey @NJPRU, i thought my entire exam was extremely easy compared to what I though it was going to be like going into the exam. I think for the last two MC sections, I flagged 4 in total. I also thought my sims were easier than I expected after reading horror stories on this forum. I finished my exam with more than an hour left.

I left the exam feeling great, but waiting made me feel nervous since you usually hear that the exam should get harder. I began to doubt myself but last week I got my passing results. I would recommend you stop worrying because there is nothing you can do now that will change your results and worrying will just drive you insane.

Tough times don't last. Tough people do.

Thanks everyone for your responses… It's not easy trying to stop thinking about the exam especially since it's my last one. I had gotten used to the feeling bad feeling that this one seems almost too good to be true. @knicks – that's exacting what I'm doing – doubting my test and driving myself insane. Make it stop!!

I never understood this easy testlet / hard testlet bs that constantly gets spewed on this forum.

Look if you understand the material you are being tested on you will think you are getting easy questions but when that same question comes up for someone that maybe didnt focus on that part of the section or is not as familiar as you are with it … they will think that same question is extremely hard.

This last test i took i went in thinking about easy/hard questions that get thrown around these forums. During the exam i asked my self would this be a easy question if i didnt spend hours on this topic and didnt do 100's of MCQ questions on this topic. The answer was no because i thought they were easy but i could see that they put in a tricky answer there that if i was not familiar with the topic i might pick the wrong answer.

Like someone mentioned above they thought they had really easy questions and made a 81 … thats because they knew the material…its as simple as that.

Haha yaaaa, except for when you know the material and you still agree the questions are very hard/complex. I have had both situations, and know that there is a bit of luck that also goes into these things.

@Time2study. If you look at page 6 of the link below, the AICPA says the testlests can range in difficulty from medium to difficult. I think that is where some people get the “easy/hard testlet” notion from.

But, in general, I agree with what you said. If you prepared, some of the “difficult” questions may not be “difficult” for you.
