Took Reg yesterday. Have no idea how I did. I know I did well on the first testlet but then got smoked with blaw on the second. I think I got 4 sims right and bombed 4. One of the sims I left the unused area blank instead of putting zeros and no entry required, and I can’t remember if the questions required me to. It makes sense that no entry required counts as an answer otherwise you could fill the whole sim with right and wrong answers and still get it right… if that makes sense. I don’t know. Has anyone recently taken the exam? If I pass I’m done if I fail I lose Bec.

I took REG last week too JJ and we are in the same boat with either passing or losing BEC. I felt okay until the SIMS. I don't even know if I got the research question right they were all super tough. I hate how little opportunity there is for partial credit, for example, the DBS questions. There are usually two parts to the answers for the DBS, why not give partial credit if you get half the question correct? I guess we will find out in June.

I took REG this past week and I left not feeling too positive. The MCQ were more difficult than expected, but still manageable. I couldn't tell if my second testlet got more difficult or not considering the 2017 AICPA released MCQ difficult questions seemed like a breeze compared to most of my MCQ in both testlets. The SIMS were extremely unique as the material was not of high priority in my study materials. I agree with Corey on the DBS as that would be much appreciated considering I had several DBS SIMS and would like some breaks on them!

You don't need to get 100% correct to get credit on a SIM. You get partial credit for answers you get right.

Took REG exam

First, there were some really weird, out-there questions. I would say majority of questions, I had not come across in any way shape or form in my review process.

Basically, I spend such great time on learning Beckers chapters and doing all ninja MCQs just to come to test day and be tested on some really random stuff. It's like they know people study and come prepared, so the way to “trip” them is throw some COMPLETELY unexpected stuff.

I really think these AICPA folks need to test on practicality. My college course tests were more relevant to the real world than this.

However, they did good with SIMS, because those were practical. It just sucks when you feel like those 8 SIMs were pretty much the only thing that you felt well prepared for!

Took REG today. @youcandoit I TOTALLY AGREE. The MCQ's were pretty demoralizing and unlike ANYTHING I have studied. I had some stuff come up that specifically was said to not be tested by my review course. Now for both BEC and REG I have felt like the MCQ's have been totally out of left field and the sims have actually been easier. I think I will have to get lucky to pass.

I too do not wish to scare anyone. People will pass this exam. It just sucks when the majority of your practice is MCQ's but the actual exam comes along and smacks you upside the head with asinine questions. I would just say that you really need to know everything for this one if you want to feel confident on exam day. It felt like every nook and cranny was tested, and some. If you know tax, you should be alright on the sims.

Another thing to add – I had at least a few DRS. Know how to get through those in good time. I burned way too much time on them

@mskcle yeah I’m not too happy about it. Woulda been nice to at least be confident on MCQ’s. But maybe we’ll make up for it on the Sims. Honestly it felt like all the questions were super vague

yeah most of my SIMS were very unique material that becker had like 1 page on and easy practice questions on that you needed to be well experienced to handle the problems.

Thanks for posting your experiences, and seems like everyone lately has had similar situations which turns out well a lot of times.

Were the MCQs still taxation-heavy?

Mine were more tax heavy although it was difficult to gauge the business law as they were so unique to my expectations. I had the same instance with REG as with FAR in that my second testlet had the same question in it.
