I’m back again, and also still feeling like I failed another section. Last quarter I took BEC and walked out of the testing center feeling horrible, like I bombed both the MCQ and the SIMs. I was rushing against the clock on that exam to. But in the end, I ended up passing BEC with an 88.

But REG was different…. I finished with an hour to spare. I didnt rush either, I tried to keep a slower pace, read over Qs 2-3 times, check my work, etc. (P.S. I used becker and ninja audio, studied probably in the ballpark of 150-200hrs)

But the MCQ were ridiculously easy. The first testlet I only flagged about 4-5 Qs, and the second testlet did get harder, but it was still relatively easy/quick questions. Inevitably I know I probably still missed a few, but I know my performance on these were strong.

For the SIMs I felt great initially. I know I nailed my research question, and no-doubt got a 100% on about 2 other SIMs. But the last one I got I know I completely bombed. There were probably 5-6 fill in boxes and I most likely only got 1 correct. The other Sims had fill-in boxes too and about 3 of them I know for a fact I got 1 of the boxes wrong on each.

I walked out of the testing center feeling on top of the world, like I aced it. But now I’m rethinking my SIMs and I feel like I failed. Has anyone else had this feeling, like they aced the MCQ and maybe missed a few SIMS, but still passed? Help!!!

I thought I bombed everything and I got an 83, so you probably did good. REG is that tricky exam that most people thought they did terrible at but then are surprised to see a passing score. I bet you passed. And remember, one of the SIMs you don't feel good about was probably a pretest, so take that into consideration. Relax, move onto the next exam if you have another one, and be confident you passed, cause from this post it sure seems like you did.

Hi, I am going to jump on this thread because I just took REG on July 6th and it's ALL I can think about day and night. I studied about 150-200 hours over 3 months using Roger. I had a similar experience to yours, except I was certain that I would run out of time, so I rushed the MCQs and TBS until testlet 6. I was left with way too much time for the last testlet. I feel pretty confident about the MCQs and 2-3 of the TBS including the research question.I walked out feeling (dare I say) good–because I hadn't run out of time and I didn't blinding type in arbitrary numbers on anything. I felt the test was fair, but then again, maybe I was fooled…

It looks like you pass. I had similar experience about REG. I felt OK on MCQs and so-so on Sims. I get away with 77.

REG was the one I thought I for sure bombed, and passed with a 76. Walked out feeling so defeated after my test. My mult choice were the tough ones and then right of the bat my first sim was nothing like I studied in BECKER the rest of the sims were okay…I think you'll be fine!

Based on my observation, if there's any guarantee or predictor of success in this exam, it's people like you who study like 8 hours a day. Not how smart they were or what review course/strategy they used. Hopefully you won't be the first to disprove my theory lol.

I had my exam today. Sims were not too tough but most of the answers I believed had zero answers . Does anybody got a situation like this ? Also I have a gent question if someone purchase used car how to depreciate it in a year u purchase it and sell it very next year ?

I had the same exact experience. I took REG last week and finished waay too quickly, but I wasn't rushing at all. My questions felt easy too but I didn't feel confident on certain ones. I know I didn't do well on the SIMs. I don't think I passed but I'm trying to stay positive.

Oh yes. I am ready for retake. I have to start preparing again. Any suggestions how to tackle simulations this time ? I almost learn by heart becker sims and no point of doing them again.

@Andrew, you're REG experience seems exactly like mine was. I also used Becker, put in the study time, and finished with 1.5 hours left.

My first testlet of MCQ's was easy – like intro to tax easy. Second testlet of MCQ's were much harder with a lot more calculations, but I still felt like I got 85-90% of them right. Also like you, I know I got my research question right because it was on a very obscure tax topic and there was really only one answer to it. I also know I did well on 3-4 of the SIMs because they were on topics I was comfortable with.

But my second SIM testlet was hard. I got 2 SIMs in that testlet that were on topics straight out of left field. I brought my Becker book with me in the car and looked up both of those topics when I was finished. Both topics had maybe a paragraph each that simply skimmed over the information. Certainly, the info didn't get covered in depth and were unlike any of the practice SIMs in Becker. I took my time and answered them the best I could, but since it was my 2nd testlet after I submitted it I couldn't go back. So, I kind of freaked out when I looked at the clock after submitting my 3rd SIM testlet and realized I had 1.5 hours left. I had used the full 4 hours for FAR and BEC, and having time left over was out of the norm for me.

I kept obsessing over those 2 SIMs – hoping one was a pre-test, etc. Looking up the correct way to answer them and realizing I probably got most of the answers wrong. I was certain I had failed and was already bracing myself for having to take REG again.

I got a 90 and my highest score yet. REG seems to be the exam that most people walk out of thinking they bombed and end up doing better than expected on. @Andrew, if your experience was that similar to mine, I'm sure you did fine.

I took REG and I have no idea what to think of it. I left the test center feeling pretty hurt. The material I prepared the least for was all over my second MC testlet. They were mostly conceptual/definition questions. Does that mean they were moderate? To add to that, I felt like I had to guess on a good bit of them. The content was from Accounting Practice and BLAW mostly. Has anyone had a similar experience with the second testlet and passed? Don't even get me started on the SIMS! The first SIM testlet was okay, but I can't remember how confident I felt about it. The second was also okay and included the research question and one question I think I was somewhat confident on. As for the last SIM testlet, I was like a deer in headlights for the last two. The first one was on a topic I felt comfortable with, but the format of it threw me off at first. The second was a topic I briefly covered and I don't think that one went too well. The last one I had no idea what to do so I guessed my way through. Nothing left that I can do now….

Zach, your performance was better than mine I can tell you that and scored 90 Congrats for that but I am very uncertain about my test so I have to redo for sure. Please guide me about sims material for my life sake for REG to pass. I’m an international candidate who has never studied US tax before and I am struggling a lot. Business law is universal so I’m not worried much about that. Taxation is freaking me out.

Besides FAR,I felt the worst after REG, due to the SIMs. The topics the SIMs were covered were straightforward and I thought I had those particular topics down to a T, but the AICPA always throws in the perfect little wrench which makes you question your entire understanding of the concept itself. It's always a little disheartening to see the SIM and at first glance looks extremely doable and then as soon as you start digging in you're stuck. I'm sure you did well, best of luck on your score release.
