Just took REG…Feeling dejected. - Page 2

Just got back from my REG exam, and I feel awful. I know that if you still have any self-confidence coming out of a CPA exam, you’re probably doing something wrong, but 75% of the material tested on the exam was not covered in Becker. I memorized most of the book and scored an 86% and an 86.5% on the practice exams, so it’s not that I didn’t have a strong grasp of the material that I was familiar with. It was that I wasn’t taught enough of the right material. I kinda felt this way after FAR, but the difference with FAR is that I could apply my knowledge to the application questions to make an educated guess. With REG, it was more conceptual questions on concepts I didn’t even learn! It was like I was closing my eyes and pointing at the screen to choose my answer.

On FAR, I scored an 87% and 90% on the practice exams and got a 96 on the actual exam, so I’m hoping that my practice exam scores for REG will follow the trend and be indicative of at least a 75. The MCQs on REG are where I think I really took a hit…again, conceptual questions on topics that I hadn’t learned. The sims weren’t too bad (they felt easier than my FAR sims). Five of them were very straightforward, but the sixth one was so bizarro and gave me so much trouble that I’m hoping that it was the pretest question.

Sorry for the pity party!!! Just needed to let it all out! Taking a few days break to go up north, and then studying for BEC begins! Happy Fourth, everyone!

I took it yesterday, only feel confident that I got the right answer on about 60% of the MCQs, and about a 50% cumulatively for the Sims. Since it was my first test I'm not sure how that translates score-wise, but I'm almost sure I failed. I was really shocked how hard the MCQs were, don't think I did well at all on them.

    None of that Lilies!

Everyone feels like they were punched in the stomach after REG. It sounds like if your multiple choice testlets got harder, you probably were doing well.

    Just wait and see!

    FAR 02/21/13 - 95
    REG 07/02/13 - 87
    AUD 08/02/13 - 94
    BEC 08/30/13 - 85
    Ethics Exam - 90

I just got out of my exam. I felt extremely confident about the MC's, but the SIMS….that's a different story. Every single SIM was from left field and involved. I'm not confident I got 25% of the SIM boxes correct.

Someone talk me off of the ledge please.

    IL
    FAR (2/20/13): 76
    AUD (4/8/13): 78
    BEC: (5/20/13): 86
    REG: (7/10/13): 76

Anyone purchase the cpaforfree REG SIMs? Thinking about doing it, but would like to hear any thoughts?

I did purchase their AUD SIMs and thought they were helpful, from both a SIM-practice perspective and from an AUD-knowledge perspective. They helped me to understand what areas I needed a more holistic understanding in vs. the individual bits gained in the MCQs.

    B: 83! (expires 2/20)
    A: 56,64,70,74 - Uff da!, 83!
    R: 70, 78!
    F: 76 expired, 69, 2/10

There is a serious issue if you went through Becker and 75% of the material was not covered…..there is absolutely no way that can be true. Yes its a hard exam and no one feels good walking out, but to blame a prep course and say they only covered 25% is complete nonsense. Seriously. There may be a few questions here and there, but nothing even close to that.

You did well on FAR and prob did the same on REG.

Sorry i just have issues with people coming on this board and slamming prep courses for their lack of study and prep. Esp when the person has high scores on previous exams using the same prep

Like I said earlier, 75% was probably a bit of an exaggeration, but it was more than half that wasn't covered by Becker. I've noticed in my previous exams that the AICPA seems to test some topics very heavily in any given exam while completely ignoring other topics. I guess my exam happened to be one of the ones where I was tested heavily on topics Becker didn't cover at all.
