Just took REG..wondering if I have a chance at passing

So I just took the REG exam on Monday. This is the first CPA exam I have taken. I think I may have failed it, but not sure. I got through all of the multiple choice questions and feel fairly good about those, there are a few (about 5) of the multiple choice that I know I missed for sure because when I got home I looked them up. The ones I know I missed were all just definition type questions not calculation problems. I really studied hard for the calculation problems because I knew those would be tough and I feel like I did well on those, but maybe not so well on some of the simpler concept and definition type questions since I did not hit that material as hard (mistake on my part). I feel like the second testlet might have been easier than the first because it did not have as many calculation problems, maybe that is not a good sign?

The problem really is that I started running out of time on the SIMS. I think the first four SIMS I probably did really well on, but the last four I had issues with. The first four seemed easier than the last ones, which had a lot more detail and calculations. The last SIM I just had to leave blank, but the previous three I know I did get some of what was on them right but probably not a lot. Just not sure if I even have a chance to pass since I had to leave the last one blank and had issues with those other three. This was a time management issue on my part, I think I could have done well on all the SIMS if I would have had more time. I started panicking and screwed up on the last four. Just wondering if there is a chance at all that I could pass? For now, I’m just keeping my head up and moving on to studying for the next exam and planning my time better.

By the way, I am new here, this is my first post (sorry it is so long). Before I started on my CPA journey, I worked in investments for about 6 years handling administration on investment accounts. I went back to school for a degree in accounting and now work in tax.

If you work in tax there is a good chance you passed. Not a guarantee but it helps recognizing things on the test. I test before the changes but felt that I did ok, I knew I had screw up some MCQ and knew my Business law was bad, and sure enough when I got my results my B.L was weaker everything else was average or stronger. So I think even if you had partial credit in the last 4 there is a good chance the others are right and your MCQ could be strong. You should pass =). Keep us posted.

Thanks for your reply Want2, yes I think the business law was my problem on the MCQ that I missed. It seems like easy material when you are studying it so I did not hit it as hard, but then the questions could be tricky on the exam. Hopefully I have a chance and will end up passing.

Let's just hope you passed. I got mine tomorrow for AUD. AUD sucks big time. If you struggle with Business Law I suggest you allow more time to study for AUD. I wish I had more time. but oh well. I did what I can and we'll see what happens tomorrow =(

I tend to agree about Biz Law. I feel like the testmakers emphasize tax issues more than that. But I say that without any real knowledge.

Hopefully this isn't too late for you. But, Audit MCQ lends itself to analysis of the answer choices.

You've probably seen it while practicing that you can often narrow down choices by realizing if the question wants a control or $ubstantive procedure.

Since your exam is tomorrow, just step through the solution to Jeff (if you're a Ninja)'s SIMs for finding and preventing errors. I forget the number but there's like four scenarios and you choose from 2 lists of activities.

That said, I'm sure you'll do fine. Don't panic and think logically about what is going on.

Well, I wanted to update my post and say that I found out today that I did not pass REG, made a 69. Not good news, but not really a surprise either. At least now I know what the expect with these tests. Need to have better time management next time around.
