So got a 70 on Reg and actually felt as good on MC as I have on the other three tests in which I passed first time. The sims i did not feel confident at all on and assumed that was probably the reason I failed. I did get two research sims, which I’m pretty sure I got both correct. There were also a couple sims in which the directions (should be easy) seemed very unclear and wasn’t sure how to approach this. Also, one of the others was fairly tricky also. I know sometimes not all the sims count on the test so I would assume maybe that if you get two research sims, prob. one of those wouldn’t count as oppossed to one of the more difficult ones. Any thoughts?

@cpa8488 – I've actually heard the opposite is true (that the point value on the research question is similar to what a regular simulation would be). The AICPA prides itself on making sure CPA candidates are excellent researchers, and they think that it is a crucial skill for anyone who is a CPA to have. Though no one knows this for sure, I wouldn't put it past them to make the research questions worth a significant portion of the exam (as much as any other SIM). If they made it worth only a few points, it would be pointless for the candidates to be tested on it because it would carry no weight (have little to no impact on scores) on the exam. That being said, I would be very surprised if they made the research SIMs worth less than regular SIMs. This is at least what I've heard from others I know who are also on this CPA Exam journey (though none of them knows for sure).

As far as the 2 research questions, people have always said that they are almost certain that 1 research SIM is pretest. Personally, I wouldn't put it past the AICPA to include both research questions as “non-pretest” questions. They love candidates being able to prove they're good researchers (because that's what an actual CPA in the real world has to do all of the time – research things they are uncertain about).

I personally got 2 research questions on my REG exam. I will find out in less than a week what my score is (please be a 75!) What I've found by reading others' posts is that some people have gotten 2 research questions and passed with great scores while others have failed. I don't think it's safe to assume that they get rid of either one. But that's just my personal opinion. Regardless, I hope all of us come out of the next score release with a 75+!

    REG - 91 (4/16/2015)

    I'M DONE!!!!

Probably means that one is a test question, which I think is bad luck.

    FAR- 82
    REG- 93
    AUD- 89
    BEC- 88

You are smarter, more focused, and more brilliant than you give yourself credit for. Believe in yourself and truly know in your heart that you can do it.
