Anyone else think their review system TOTALLY overcompensated for the new format - Page 2

I took REG yesterday – my first section to take in the new format. I was a little concerned going in because I could tell the MCQs in Gleim (which were already hard) had gotten significantly harder since they did their big update for the new exam changes. I knew if the questions on the actual exam were that difficult that I would have a REALLY hard time passing this time around.

I left the exam feeling like there was absolutely nothing harder about it. It felt like all they did was changed the format and made it longer. The MCQs on the actual exam felt almost (dare I say) easy, especially compared to what I was practicing with using Gleim. The sims were long and in depth, but I wouldn’t say they were unbearably difficult either. I’m not trying to be overly confident, and I’m definitely not going to assume I passed. I was just pleasantly surprised compared to what I was expecting.

I know I’m not comparing apples to apples because I never took REG in the old format, so I was wondering just out of curiosity if anyone else (Gleim or other review system) had this experience with any of the sections in the new format?

    @cpa

Can I ask you what you where trending in NINJA? I am using on NINJA for my final review. Want to know how other people felt once they got to the test.

    Thanks,

@jtvande, I was trending 82% in Ninja (averaging only 68%). My trending score might be skewed because in the last few days before my test I concentrated heavily in specific areas I was weaker in (following my usual gameplan). I didn't feel great going into the test; however I had improved on MCQs and was doing about as well as I had in FAR and BEC when I took and passed those, so I was (naively) optimistic.

I'm not usually one to complain but I just took REG today and it was almost unreal. I got through all of Becker 4000 MCQs 60% of sims and a stack of 200 index cards that I carried around with all the Exceptions and General Rules but what happened today was almost a huge let down. I was hopeful that I would see some of the Exceptions and GR's that I picked up in Becker. All the knowledge was hidden in the sims so you have to take all the information and jog your memory for the Exceptions and GR's for when you are combing through all those documents. I am hoping for a huge miracle on this one.

@shawn If Allie thinks it was easy, then she is free to say it whenever, and however many times she wants. Don't call her out because she found her exam to be less difficult than her review. Some of us actually understand that to be useful information. Also, trust me, the AICPA could not care less about what we write in here. They have far superior metrics at their disposal to use for exam creation. For example, gee I don't know, maybe ACTUAL test scores.

@allie You didn't need to apologize. You did nothing wrong.

I just took the AUD exam last Friday. I also thought it was easier than expected.

    BEC - 68, 76
REG - biting nails til Friday
    AUD - 66, 4/14
    FAR - 8/14

If you scored in the 90's, you studied too hard!

I thought I was going to die of frustration doing the GLEIM enrolled agent questions – but they were actually responsible for my being able to pass REG with a solid score.

I wish. REG was a nightmare of foreign material. Sure, 2/3 was covered, but the last 1/3 in Sims had me thinking WTF? I mean I answered a couple MCQ's and read a paragraph or 2 for each Sim, but really?

Enough crying and back to the Grind. It is frustrating though.

    Goodluck.

Gleim totally over prepared me for FAR. I was barely making 75% in my study sessions up to the day of the exam and my average score was a 73%. This made me nervous going into the exam, but I ended up with a 90. It was super tough and a lot of work but I am pretty sure struggling through Gleim and sticking with it was the reason I did so well.
I also used the ninja notes and audio which helped simplify some of the more complicated topics in Gleim and credit that to my passing as well. I'm hoping that my other exams go as well as my first.
