I made a stupid mistake during the test at Prometric today. During the standard break time, (the clock stops ticking), I went for a break and trying to use bathroom. I swear I totally forget that we can’t use cell phone during break. So I opened the locker and trying to put in my ID and I can go to bathroom. (I brought passport so I don’t what to take it with me all the time). After I opened the locker, I saw a have a text message coming with a lot of lines. I swear I just naturally started to read it and then! The staff came over and said she needs to take a picture of what I was reading and file a report on me. I was then let her take a photo of my screen which that text message on. (The message is totally irrelevant of review material). But she allowed me to continue taking the test. I am so freak out now as I am sure I can pass the exam but wondering what could be the consequences. Will my exam score be voided? Please give me some advices. I know I am so stupid for being neglected of the rules…. help…

Since it was just a friendly text message from your friend unrelated to any CPA materials, you should be fine. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Hopefully they will understand with the stress of the situation.
I always left my phone locked in my car in the parking garage.
Just to avoid situation such as this.
I only brought my NTS, ID, car key and any snacks or drinks I needed.
Live and learn. Sounds like it will probably be okay unless they get you on a technicality.

The consequences? A 74 for the score.

But seriously, probably nothing is gonna happen. No need to stress yourself out because there is nothing that can be changed now.

The rules seem clear – no cell phone access during exam. You may be saved by the photo they took. Next time leave your phone in the car. If they make you retest you will have to accept it.

On your license app there is a question about exam misconduct. Be prepared to address it. Wait and see what happens next and if something happens speak directly to your board to find out how to move past it.

At my testing center, they tell us to turn our phones completely off. Maybe it's to avoid slip ups like yours and of course to deter cheating.

Lol, I made a stupid mistake myself. I took a break after the third testlet and assumed when the break screen popped up the time stopped. I took all fifteen minutes to continue to clear my nerves, came back and realized the time was still running. Worst part is, this was my third time taking the exam.

I made the same mistake as well and 2 of my friends made that mistake also. All of us received our scores despite us getting written up! As long as there was no actual cheating you should be fine
