Tayne: You mentioned “go through the reading”. Does that mean reading the book?

    Goingallin:

Yes, go back through the section of the book you're studying, taking notes on the most important concepts to condense the physical amount of material.

For example, you did the R2 lecture yesterday, so today you would sit down, read through the marked-up R2 material and work toward condensing the material in your own format/wording/color/whatever works for you. The goal is that transforming Becker's words into your own provides you with not only a more efficient study tool (short notes), but you are doing more information processing that entrenches the concepts in your brain. You will realize that when you can reformulate a concept into your own interpretation, you have a more robust and cohesive knowledge of the concept.

At 4 tries, REG was my beast. I finally put it to rest with a 77. With that, I am finished.

If I had not passed, I would have lost both AUD and FAR. Not to mention my first-born is arriving in April. Not to mention exam changes in April as well.

    This is major.

Thank you all for a wonderful community. Thank you, Jeff, for your Ninja Notes, Ninja Audio and Ninja MCQ. Couldn't have done it without you. Cheers!

Congrats to everyone in this thread who passed! I'm quite jealous. Care to give some advice to a panicking peer?

I'm taking REG March 9th, giving me about a week and a half to go. I'm terrible on R1-4 and am currently on R3 essentially re-reading the entire Becker book while creating an outline. Each chapter takes me about a day-a day and a half. I'm hoping R5-R8 I can get through faster since the info is less complex and less dense. But even still, I may only be ending up with a few days to basically just review my outline, do the practice tests, and progress tests/sims. Is this a dumb plan?

Any advice on how to take this home stretch and concepts/chapters recommended to focus on?

@Accountingbeans Don't get too caught up in the minutia detail, especially with taxation for individuals (AMT, child care & dependent tax credit for examples). You want to know what they are of course, but not that is some % up to a certain $ etc. In a perfect world we'd master all of it, but its not always practicable. My other advice is to really make sure you understand the material surrounding corporate tax at all stages – formation, operations, and dissolution. I found parternship accounting to be easier since it operates mostly like a bank account, but I'd bet the vast majority of exams have sims that include at least 1 on Corporations. Of everything on the exam, this was the area I wish I knew better. I thought I knew it going in to the exam, and perhaps I knew it well enough for MC questions, but for Sims it was a lot tougher. Business law is relatively intuitive in my opinion so thats an area you can probably get through pretty quickly. As you get questions wrong, make you know why you got them wrong – not just what the right answer should of been. Filling those holes is arguably more valuable then spreading yourself too thin at the last second cramming info you may or may not be able to even recall on exam day. Best of luck!!

I passed REG with an 82! I felt like I had to have failed after the exam, the TBS I struggled with most had to have been the pre-tested one. So happy to get the two shorter exams out of the way before the change. Now on to AUD.

As a side note, I have used only Roger CPA review for BEC and REG and passed them both. I almost bought the NINJA MCQ for REG. Probably should have either way, these forums and site have been really helpful, even if I mostly just lurk in the background!

I FINALLY PASSED REGGGGGGG on the third attempt. Failing REG has caused me to lose credit for BEC & AUD.

The only difference I made to tackle REG the third time was Ninja MCQ. If you are also struggling with REG, Ninja will help you pass!

Now let's hope a BEC & AUD retake won't be too hard. Congats to everyone who passed!

I passed! I know my score doesn't show it, but I actually thought REG was much more difficult to study for than FAR.

Hey @dtatham10 – I didn't realize I had a similar REG path as you. What the heck did you do to get over the hump of REG? SIMS did me in this last go 'round. I'm ditching Becker (aka they ditched me, it expired haha) but not sure what to use for attempt #5. I've used NINJA MCQ but never dabbled in the SIMS on there. I appreciate any tips if you are still checking the thread! 🙂

Forgot to post here, but I passed REG and I'm officially done!

@CPA788- I'm really sorry you didn't pass this time. I was pulling for you and hoping we'd be done together. I'm sure you probably don't want to spend more money, but I would purchase the Gleim test bank and hit the sims hard! They're about as close to the real exam as anything you'll see. Their mcq's are crazy hard and go into a lot of detail, but there won't be many surprises when you take the exam. Ninja and Wiley mcq's seemed to be the most comparable to the actual exam so I'd put more attention towards them, but if you really want to be challenged, mix in some Gleim mcq's. I honestly feel adding Gleim is what put me over the top since I struggled with the sims for my first attempt.

@CPA788 I would have to agree with re2pect about adding some additional SIMS. The two weeks before my REG exam on 2/25 I signed up for the 2 week free trial from Wiley. I did as many SIMS as I could. I would try to get two done in the morning before breakfast, one at lunch and then two or 3 at night before tackling MCQs. It is my belief that seeing something different those two weeks helped me get over the hump. Also, I have about 15 pages of notes, items to memorize and memory aides that my wife called out to me starting about a month before my test. We would do our best to cover 3 to 4 pages a night. As I became more comfortable with the material we were able to cover more pages during a night. I've read where someone said that REG is a high level test, but I disagree, the devil is in the details. That is what helped me go from a 74 to an 81 and being done with these exams. Good luck to you. I'll be glad to share my notes if you're interested.

@re2pect and @bravesfannc (am I in the mlb forum? haha. Go Giants btw). Awesome advice, thank you. I got the Wiley free trial going last night, trying to get my groove going with that. The feedback on Gleim is good, I was holding off on buying NINJA again (don't hate Jeff I've bought it once already!) and $99 for one section with Gleim is reasonable. My husband will do anything at this point to get this behind us so maybe I'll employ him to help with my stack of note cards. I just need to nail the SIMS, and fine tune my entity taxation. @re2pect – remember how we said we wouldn't know how to study again if we didn't pass? I can plug away at MCQ every night, but the ridic SIMS are just what make me nervous. Did you have another software you've used to compare Gleim SIMS to? You know how I feel right now – this has gotta be the last go. BEC expires next month. Thanks so much for not forgetting us back here 🙂

@CPA788- I just wrote a long ass post and it got erased when I hit submit smh.

I used just about every review course for my retake lol (Roger, Ninja, Gleim, Wiley and Becker). I only had access to Becker for a couple weeks and did the sims from a few of the tax chapters and a couple hundred mcq's. I think Gleim has the best sims and gives you everything you need to pass. They look exactly like the exam and the AL is almost identical. They're just as hard, if not harder than some of the sims I've had on the real exams.

There were a few others from the REG study group who purchased Gleim for their retake and I believe they all passed in Q1. I'm not going to speak for them and say that was the reason, but it must mean something.

@re2pect – Something about an erased post makes me so friggin angry haha. Ok, Gleim it is. Thanks again for the advice. I am coming back to REG with a vengeance.
