Now that I’ve passed, I feel like I have a ton of free time on my hands that would best be spent towards accomplishing something else. Work is covered, I’m devoting more time to family and friends, but I still feel the need to keep learning. Is anyone else motivated for another certification? What cert is next?

I emailed AICPA with some questions about CGMA, and got an auto-reply starting like this:

“Thank you for contacting the AICPA. Due to unusually high email volume, it may take in excess of 48 hours to respond to your request.”

Seriously? I'll be happy if I get a response within one week! 🙂

Khan Academy has free classes on programming which I plan to watch once I am done with CPA. I took a programming class in high school (can't remember which one though, I am getting old, lol) and enjoyed it and now I really want to learn how to create an Android App. My son is always playing the free games on my phone and his tablet and I think it would be cool to try and create one. I know I will probably have to take a few more classes but why not…I will need something to do with my free time starting March 2014!! (crossing fingers 🙂

    Got a reply from AICPA:

“You will need an additional three years above the experience requirement to earn your CPA license.”

So, bummer….I will only have 3.5 yrs of experience by Jan. 2015…..6 months short of getting the CGMA without having to take the exam….and they would still have to look at my resume to determine if my experience would qualify.

But based on this info, it doesn't say that it has to be “in addition”…..so I may try asking them again later…..as we know, different people may have different answers to the same question…..

    Qualifications

To qualify, members must meet one of the CGMA experience requirement options below. *

    A minimum of:

•Three years of financial (including internal audit) or management accounting experience in business, industry, or government, or

•Two years of financial or management accounting experience plus one year in public accounting, or

•Three years of financial/management accounting experience on a consulting basis, or

•Three years in a management accounting role focused on the management and operation of an accounting firm
