Recently, I contacted the NJ Board of Accountancy regarding the status of my CPA application. Their representative replied,”Please be advised that the Board has not received any statements of experience from your employers. Experience must be accounted for from your degree to the present time with a statement provided by each of the employers.”
My concern is “from your degree”. The first degree I obtained was in 1990 and that was a degree in Communications. However, I completed my accounting curriculum in 2012, which enabled me to sit for the CPA exam. The accounting curriculum was not even a degree program, but was a certificate program with the required business and accounting courses to sit for the CPA exam.
So with this in mind, do they mean the 1990 degree or the 2012 certificate. If they mean the 1990 degree, then it is almost impossible for me obtain even one statement of experience from the time period. In addition, most to all of these positions were not even accounting positions.
If anyone was in a similar situation, please advise.
thanks!
