Why do some people say give the exam instead of take the exam. Is this some sort of religious thing or just poor grammar?

I think it has to do with where you are from. I knew an exchange student from Germany who would always say “give”an exam.

I've also heard “write” the exam. I think the pen and paper CPAs mostly say that due to the fact they literally wrote every part!

Give, take, sit, write may all just be a factor of age and region.

Some people call it a paper! “You have only one paper left”. I totally don't get it since it's not an essay! But I chose not to correct them…
