I’ve always thought the Elijah Watt Sells Award was given to the 10 individuals with the highest cumulative score on the CPA exam, with more awards given out in case of a tie. However, the following article announcing last year’s winners suggests otherwise:
Does anybody know if the AICPA will apply the same criteria this year and give the award to everyone with an average of 95.50 or higher? I went to school with someone who won the award two years ago, and she got three 99s and one 97! I know the top scores vary from year to year, but I find it hard to believe that over 25 individuals were tied with a 95.75 (the lowest score above a 95.50, which is an assumption based on their use of the phrase “above 95.50”).
Has the AICPA released any indication about how they will determine the winners this year?
