Applying for licensing years after passing

Does anyone know if there are many people that take this route? I barely started applying to accounting jobs 2 weeks ago, but I also started applying for Financial Analyst jobs. Say I’m lucky enough to get a job but it won’t count towards the work experience requirement. Would it be really weird to later on complete the work experience requirement if the opportunity ever comes my way? Would it be weird if I never end up meeting the work experience requirement and essentially passed this exam for nothing?

Thanks for any input on this situation.

    BEC 4/3/13 84
    AUD 5/7/13 69, Retake 11/9/13 82
    FAR 8/13/13 78
    REG 10/11/13 85

There are a few states in which you lose your exam credit if you don't get a license in a certain number of years just make sure what your state says about it.

Although personally I never ever would have put myself through the exam process if I didn't have a solid plan in place to see it through to the end.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

You can't lose your exams in California so you should be ok. If you wait longer than X years you have to do something like Y amount of CPE hours.

I believe X is 6 years and Y is 80 hrs or more

I also believe this requirement is when you haven't worked in accounting or passed the exams in over 6 years. All of the specifics can be found in the California handbook on page Z.

    I believe page Z is page 22 😉

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

In California you have to work under a CPA… You don't have to do audit or tax. I'd say passing will likely help you land an accounting job. And why not get that year or two under your belt?

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

I wonder if some of the work that you would do as a financial analyst, might possibly count??

so maybe you could get “partial credit”??

Even if you don't work for a CPA, some states allow you to hire a CPA to review work that you've done at your job.

Being happy in your career is most important. If you go the financial analyst route and like it, then great.

But, it would be really hard to lose all the work of passing the exams.

BTW, the volunteer tax service counts toward CPA work experience hours. So, you can always get your work experience done by moonlighting in off-hours.

You could also work for H&R Block during tax season on weekends.

So, there are ways around it.

    FAR - 86 - 2/27/14
    AUD - 75 - 5/29/14
    BEC - 80 - 8/31/14
    REG - 89 - 2/27/15
    Praise Jesus! I'm done!!
