I took a few accounting courses in college for my business minor, but majored in something totally unrelated. When I decided to change careers and go into accounting, I took a few more classes, to have just enough ‘accounting and related classes’ credits to sit the CPA exam (24 here in Pennsylvania). Then I self-studied for a year to pass the CPA exams.
But my resume still doesn’t show an accounting degree, or even any accounting experience. I’m caught in the “can’t get a job without the experience, can’t get the experience without the job” circle. So I’ve decided to get a certificate in accounting at least, maybe an associate’s degree, just to have something that says “accounting” on the resume.
Does anybody know of an online school that will give credit for my prior accounting classes, and for the knowledge inherent in passing the CPA exam? Maybe let me test out of the classes? I’ve spoken with a few schools, and they all want me to take intermediate accounting classes and others that I already taught myself that in order to pass the exams. No sense in paying to learn what I already know.
Thank you.
