Ok, so as I’m sure you all are aware, Reg is terrible. I’m sitting in the Prometric parking lot feeling violated and destroyed. I felt reasonably prepared for the exam, with maybe the exception of a fewer of the more esoteric items. The test resembled something from another planet. It’s sad really because I know I learned a lot about tax and now as an auditor can reasonably speak to topics and even provide exceptions! But apparently this test didnt like that. Inane topics for MC questions, including multiple questions asking for the same calc. which I didnt know for any of them. I’m glad they tested that instead of some of the other 800 topics in this section that I spent loads oc time studying. Good luck to all taking Reg and be forewarned that it will crush your soul. I’m going to go drive and get lost somewhere. How could Pete and Tim led me so far astray?

Thanks again Kb. I'm finding it easier to read now, it was just tough to get started after a nice weekend break. I am watching lectures one section at a time then reading each sub-section and doing the mcq for each one individually. I know Jeff suggests watching ALL the videos for all sections before any mcq but I learn better doing the mcq right after I read a specific section for immediate reinforcement. It is still slower moving than I planned but I don't want to rush through it. I am saving the supplemental questions for my review. I hope I can conquer this beast my first try!

    A - 93 (7/1/11)
    R - 87 (7/29/11)
    F - 77 (8/31/11)

I recenty passed REG with a higher score than I expected. Having taken my previous 3 exams in 2010, my technique for dealing with the SIMs was to race through the MCQs (and boy did I make some dumb mistakes, in retrospect) to leave plenty of time. I used it all — it wasn't that the questions were horribly difficult, but it did take time to get on their wavelength to figure out exactly what a couple of them were asking for. I would say they were not very clearly worded in some cases. Also read carefully to understand whether subparts of a SIM are cumulative (each building on previous facts and calculations) or you are to assume a clean slate before doing each subpart. Also pay attention to whether you have to include a minus sign or the answer block makes your number negative automatically.

Would you say flying through the MCQ was the better strategy? I plan to not waste too much time on a single question and just get through them in about an hour and a half.

Its been about a week since I took REG and I still don't feel any better about it. My MC were reasonable but definitely hard and on little details I wouldn't have expected. My SIMS were beyond ridiculous. I had no idea what I was doing and was struggling to finish. I couldn't even believe this was happening. The topics on the SIMS were hardly covered in Becker, and I don't think 2 of them were REG related. I studied so much for this section in anticipation of its difficulty after reading this forum. I know a lot of people had similar experiences but I don't even know how to move forward. I'm trying not to think about it but I dont know how to study differently next time around, because I'm sure there will be a next time around.

I just took REG today, and I feel horrible about it. The MCs are fair, but the Sims are way too much work for so little time! i guess i just have to spend more or less around 30 minute max on each tablet of MC next time!
