Ok, so as I’m sure you all are aware, Reg is terrible. I’m sitting in the Prometric parking lot feeling violated and destroyed. I felt reasonably prepared for the exam, with maybe the exception of a fewer of the more esoteric items. The test resembled something from another planet. It’s sad really because I know I learned a lot about tax and now as an auditor can reasonably speak to topics and even provide exceptions! But apparently this test didnt like that. Inane topics for MC questions, including multiple questions asking for the same calc. which I didnt know for any of them. I’m glad they tested that instead of some of the other 800 topics in this section that I spent loads oc time studying. Good luck to all taking Reg and be forewarned that it will crush your soul. I’m going to go drive and get lost somewhere. How could Pete and Tim led me so far astray?

    AUD - 99 (10/4/10)
    FAR - 92 (11/29/10)
    BEC - 87 (1/24/11)
    REG - 90 (5/30/11)

Yeah….REG issues serious beatdowns. I took it for the 2nd time in April and no matter how hard you study you just cannot be totally prepared. I studied REG until I was literally sick. Still got to the test asking myself what the hell is this.

    FAR-81
    BEC-84
    AUD-91
    REG-89

Just go to the reg sub forum and you will see a lot of people struggled. I think reg is the new beast for this exam. BTW, nice score on your aud section.

    AUD - 83 Feb11
    REG - 75 May11
    BEC - 73 July11 84 Oct11
    FAR - 63 Aug11 76 Feb12 I'M DONE!!!!!

REG 2011 was made to makes us suffer. Look at the passing rates for the first quarter…………………… believe me when I say REG is the new FAR.

    FAR 88 - BEC 86 - AUD 90 - REG 85

Im confused… if becker doesn't cover this well enough, or the other courses dont how are you supposed to study for this then?

I used CPAexcel for REG and I felt pretty prepared. Of course I still don't know if I passed yet… but I felt like the MCQs were very familiar. If I fail I believe it will be due to the task based simulations.

    FAR: 71, 77
    BEC: 70, 82
    AUD: 62, 78
    REG: 71, 68, 85

Just took REG today. MCQ's were reasonable for me, however a couple of the sims were beyond ridiculous. Poorly written. I'd like to see Mr. Gearty identify the “call of the question” for two of sims I got.

Hoping I passed. — BEC expires next window with AUD after.

I finally passed. I got a 79 on REG. When I took it in April, I felt the MC's were fairly easy and I was well prepared. The SIMs… holy crap. First off, don't rely on the tutorial on the AICPA website. Those example sims are very easy. You will not be getting anything that easy. I bought the wiley book or 55 at barnes and noblesess. It is a good book, for MCs. but terribel for sims. That book will not prepare you for sims. That being said, try and purchase some simulation questions.

Also, research question. If you get this wrong, you don't deserve to pass. Practice beforehand on how to search. Then when you get there, just make sure the answer you pick is exactly right. I spent 25 minutes on the research question, but it is worth 6.5 to 8 points. So if you think about it, 8% of 180 minutes is 14 minutes. You need to budget 15 minutes for the research question. I had about 90 minutes for the sims. I had time to spare.

do you think becker's MC is similar to the ones on the test? where can i find practice simulations/research question on the AICPA website?

@osidecompass- You said your test had foreign questions on stuff you didn't study, yet based on your signature, you scored a 90??? Either you're a great guesser or you knew more than you think you did.

Just got home. I felt VERY prepared going in. I killed myself studying with Becker. I left very upset.

    Thoughts:

    – Flagged 31 MCQs, of which I probably got half right.

    – Probably got ~90% on the other 41 MCQs.

    – Nailed 1 sim, did mediocre on 4 sims, likely got no credit for 1 other (knew the content but I don't know what I was being asked).

Overall I'm frustrated with Becker and with the fact I'll have to wait close to three months to get back a score that is likely a failure.

Just took REG this afternoon. It was just as everyone here said — some obscure MCQ and Sims were from out of left field. For a couple of the Sims I ended up using the literature to look up how to do it. I think I may have actually gotten a few questions right because of this — questions I would have gotten wrong for sure if I hadn't looked them up. I am starting to wonder if this exam is meant not only to test you on what you know, but on how to figure it out if you don't know.

Anyway, my advice is be prepared to use the research tab to help you answer some questions.

Hopefully, I got enough to pass. I've passed the other three exams, and I agree that REG was definitely the worst. FAR was intense in terms of the volume of material, but the test seemed pretty straightforward.

I just took REG today. It was my first section attempt. I feel like I did well enough to pass regarding the MCQs but the sim was unreal. I became an enrolled agent last year and I feel I have a pretty good idea about tax but I just felt abused after the sim and its worth 40 points total. I studied so much and the sim covered parts I knew more in theory rather than the details. I just felt like that part took away my chance at passing and I feel very unmotivated to start studying for anymore sections. I know I get back on that horse and ride but I lost a lot of wind in my sail. So now what do I do? I guess I will just wait a couple of months to have my heart broken? I know that's not being positive but I just need to vent.

I think 90% of people have the same exact experience with REG. Multiple choice questions are fair but tough, and the Sims are unfair and tougher. If you look at the original poster of this thread, they had a terrible experience yet scored a 90. So don't let the bad exam experience weigh you down too much. I know I walked out feeling terrible, and sure enough I didnt pull off a passing score….but many others have walked out feeling defeated(including myself with other sections) and ended up passing(sometimes with pretty good scores).

Its definitely an awful feeling, knowing you worked so hard and felt prepared yet found yourself struggling through 3 hours of torture—just goes to show how difficult this exam is.

I can relate with the above poster about the sims. I spent probably 45-50 minutes RESEARCHING the NON-RESEARCH sims.

If you have the time, you can nail the sims that are worded appropriately.

If you don't have time to research, you're going to have a harder time.

Can anybody who has just taken the test in July confirm whether 2010 amounts or 2011 amounts were on the test? (for exemptions, credits, etc).

    B - 85 (5/31/11)
    A - 93 (7/1/11)
    R - 87 (7/29/11)
    F - 77 (8/31/11)
