What happens if your boss is not a CPA and can’t sign off on my work experience? Has anyone gotten around it by having another CPA sign off on it? My boss mentioned that he knows someone who is a CPA would could sign off on it after he reviews my work. My boss is the sole owner of a small accounting/tax firm.

I am having the same problem! All this hard work and no one to sign off on my experience! From what I have determined many firms are reluctant to sign off on someone's work that is not employed by their firm.

Does anyone have a suggestion on what to do?n

Well I asked this question to my state board about a year ago (MD). They emailed me back saying as long as an ACTIVE CPA *REVIEWS* your documentation showing that you have worked for the year or whatever, he/she can sign off without you having to work under him.

The best thing, EMAIL your state board, do not call. That way you can have everything in writing, and there is no mix up.

Thank you! I will e-mail. I've fallen under the same situation and have stressed out about it. I don't want to go through all this and then be told I can't obtain my license.

It depends on the state. I know that in some states you can pay the state board to come in and review your work, I think its pretty expensive though.

Welcome! Also, if they do email you or take longer then a day or two, I would call but dont mention that you've emailed them, just so they will reply to that as well.
