Hi all, I would like to take a poll of anyone who wishes to answer:

    1. What is your driving force to pass the CPA exam?

    2. What (physically) keeps you going during the long hours of preparing (food/drinks/etc.)?

Thanks to all who read and respond.

    Good luck.

Ok so I thought since I posted this survey it would only be right to give my answers.

    1. What drives me to become a CPA is the region in which I live (South Texas) in that you almost have to have a CPA or public experience to be given a second look in terms of respectable accounting employment that is not just bookkeeping (which I currently do). My drive is to earn more and feel like a respected accountant and get to do work that not just anyone with a HS diploma can do. There are a few local firms in my area but you pretty much have to have a CPA to be considered at them so this is my motivation. I have experienced frustration with this for a while but since my husband has good employment and we generally like the area I know it must be ME who does something about my future employment possibilities.

    2. I do enjoy Starbucks but MAN that can get expensive so I do try to make my own coffee at home. I used to drink Monster energy drinks during college when needing energy to study but have tried to stay away from them since.

    Thanks to all that reply!!

    1. My answer to number one is pretty identical to you. I live in PA where you have to have auditing experience to get your license. I finished college and my children were very young and I had no desire to do auditing. I have been looking for jobs in my home state of VA and many of the jobs I've been interested in require a CPA. Even though I have 17 years of experience and an MBA, it's like that last piece of the puzzle is missing, because I have gotten very little response to my applications. So 17 years after college I bit the bullet and decided I would go for it. I've passed 3 parts with only one to go!!!

    2. I go running, or take a drive for a cup of coffee or something to get away for a while. My body is just beat by the time I finish taking a test from sitting for so long.

    1. Besides the obvious: more money; I would say becoming partner at my firm and basically self employed is my motivator. I've had 2 shit bosses(not at my current job), and I don't want to have another one.

    2. What physically keeps me going is Diet Sunkist. I bet I drank 15 of them last week alone. I try to study about 4 hours a night, and the other thing that keeps me going and not losing my ability to concentrate is a shower about halfway in. I am usually more productive after that.

By the way I am from southeast TX, too. The Beaumont area.

    1. I graduated recently but do not yet have a job so I'm hoping that passing these exams will give me the edge I need!

    2. I study in different places all the time! Since I cannot change the material, I change everything else I can to beat the boredom! I live around my university campus and have studied in every library, every coffee shop and in the summer, every patch of grass around 🙂 The change of environment is the only thing that keeps me going!
