My fault, my fault, I should have been proactive enough to find out if I had the required 150 credits or not, long ago. Applied for my license and it turns out VA BOA just emailed me saying I only have 146 credits. I just looked through my documents and I have a foreign BSc Accounting (110 credits) and an MSc from the US (36 credits) but I had all along been confident that a combination of BSc and Msc would never fall short of whatever education requirements were needed so I didn’t verify and now I am paying the price.

I am not currently enrolled in any school. I have searched online and many 1 to 3-year old another71.com topics came up and some people mentioned LSU and CLEP. CLEP seems to work only if you are enrolled at a school. Most semesters won’t start till the summer. I need my license NOW. lol

I am wondering if anyone has any idea about which is the fastest (and cheapest) way I could earn the 4 credits I need? I appreciate any suggestions.

If you already have the accounting core requirements met, look into your local community college for two fun courses.

Turns out I didn't need any extra classes. My foreign education includes an Advanced Levels Certificate (A'Levels) and each A' Level course is equivalent to 8 undergrad credits. I had 3 A'Level courses so all this time I was sitting on a pile of credits and didn't even know until someone asked me about my A'Levels. smh.

I got it evaluated and now I am certified. All's well that ends well. 🙂

What's interesting is that in MA, I believe Masters courses weigh more towards the 150 credit hours. Each Masters credit = 1.33 undergraduate, I believe.

Since this thread is open I may as well as my question here rather than starting a new one. Does anybody have experience with internships counting as credits? Specifically, REQUIRED full time internships?

For some background, I went to a cooperative education university where, at the time, a requirement for graduation was to go on at least two full time “co-op” internships. While these weren't in-class credits, they were requirements for graduating from the program and do appear on my transcript. The problem is, my transcript distinguishes between standard credits and “experiential learning” credits to account for the internships being fulfilled. Going through the approval process, I was told these would not count, which is a bit disappointing since the whole point of them was to replace/enhance in-class education and expanded my program to 5 years.

Has anybody else had experience trying to get something like this approved? I feel strongly that it should count given that the credits are on my transcript and were requirements for graduation.

@SoFARSoGood There may be an issue with the school including them but not having gone through the requirements (whatever they may be) to have those credits count for accredited courses through their accrediting agency, so it may be something they're allowed to list as experience but not academic credits or something to that effect. Some schools list these credits as standard academic credits, but given that your school has listed them separately, I'm guessing there's a reason behind how the school is required to classify them. I would suggest contacting your school to inquire about it, explain the situation some and see if they can confirm whether the courses are college credits like your other courses or whether they don't count as accredited college credit. If they do confirm your expectations that the courses count, then you may be able to get a letter from your school's academic dean which you could forward to NASBA/your state board in support of including the credits, and have it include the academic dean's contact information so that the person evaluating your credits can follow up for additional information if required.

It really would feel like such a shame to have gone through 5 years of undergrad (with no delays, mind you, that's just the standard program length) and not have the required credits to show for it. Lord knows my student loans sure as heck showed the effect of the extra year. 😡

@kemi22 – Which evaluation service did you use to get your G.C.E A/Ls evaluated for additional credits – WES or NASBA International Evaluation Service (NIES) and did you get the course-by-course evaluation? Thanks!

I'm in your boat dude. I graduated in 2010 with the 120 credit hours, but the job market is demanding I get the 150 hours, so I need to get 30 more.

What i'm planning to do is take some classes at community college, some at LSU, and some CLEP examinations. The CLEP exams will usually go on your community college transcript, if you enroll in at least one class. The number of transcripts doesn't matter, at least in my state.

In order to resolve the major issue, which I read above, simply declare yourself as an accounting major at the CC. You can then just transfer your credits from your undergrad in and viola, your now an accounting major at the community college. Either that or just declare a business major, which you'll likely have most of the credits for from your undergrad. Also, make sure you meet the specific requirements. For example, my state requires x credits in y, etc.

Declaring a major is usually as easy as telling the registrar, you want to be an xyz major.
