Virginia to Maryland Licensing Requirements

Hey all! I’m a relatively new CPA licensed in VA. I just received a job offer that would require me to work in Maryland. I was wondering how hard it is to get reciprocal licensing in Maryland for a Virginia resident. I heard somewhere that Maryland requires either four years of practical experience, or at least one-year in accounting experience supervised by a practicing CPA.

Here’s my issue… I have about two years of experience in federal audit, but the federal government doesn’t require its auditors to be CPAs. My supervisor isn’t a practicing CPA. Would this be something that could prevent me from getting licensed in Maryland?

    https://www.dllr.state.md.us/license/cpa/cpaapply.shtml for more info.

I would send your question to the Maryland State Board of Accountancy an email at: cpa@dllr.state.md.us. Responses seem to be quicker than if you contacted them by phone.

    CPA license in progress....
