    Hello,

Can anyone shed some light on how we take this course? I plan to call the VABOA tomorrow to ask but is this something I can take instead of waiting for them to tel me to go take it?

Also, is it online or must it be live? I have looked at the VABOA’s website for info and it is all over the place, nothing very direct. I went to the websits of all the sponsors/providers and cold not find anything about an online delivery of the course. The VSCPA has it as a live seminar for March 16th. I am hoping I can take it online somehow and as soon as possible, without the time constraints of live classes.

Any piece of information will be appreciated.

Congratulations!!! Boricua in the house…I'm so happy for you that your journey is over!!. and for @kemi as well VA Colleagues.

In regard the VA Ethics CPE in the initial year of license” No, no actual CPE is required for the initial license”. Please see link below.
    https://www.boa.virginia.gov/Forms/CPERequirementsCertificationForm.pdf

Your next step should be the AICPA Ethics course, just make sure that you print a PDF copy, then complete the experience requirement form and finally the submission of this 2 document to the Board. It is quite straight forward process.
    Welcome Aboard!!!

Thanks for you responses. I did my AICPA ethics test a couple of days ago. The language on the website made me think i needed the VA ethics course. I am glad I don't. I am applying for my license today. lol.

Curious – Makiu or Hokinizeu – did you send your ethics cert and employment verification by fax or snail mail?

I did both, fax and once you establish an email communication from them, feel free to ask them if is OK to email your documents. I see your signature and definitely I admired your persistence. Where in VA are you located?
    Good luck !!!

    Thanks, Makiu.

I am actually in Upper Marlboro, MD. I chose to apply through VA because they required less courses than MD did. I have a foreign B.SC. Accounting plus an MSc. in Accounting/IT from Maryland but that wasn't enough for MD BOA so I went to friendlier VA. lol

    One last question .. 🙂

How long does it take from the time you submit your application and all documents required to the time you receive your license (CPA certificate)?

    You are very welcome!!
In regard the timing to process your package it all depends how much work load they have, personnel and the time of the year. I process mine 1 month after got my score ( Christmas vacation), and took them 10 working days to get an active license and 4 weeks to receive the Wall Certificate, just keep an eye of their website and you will be able to see their progress. If all documents are in place, i.e. transcripts, experience form, fee paid, and the Ethics Certificate bla…you should be fine. What are your plans? Going public, start your own business, move up the ladder etc. I'm located in Fairfax County, VA … and considering to launch a practice sometimes this year I'm looking for an Audit / IT Partner ..

the ethics course is so long! I got impatient and tried to solve the exam, got 84% twice. Anyone v know how many times I cam attempt the exam? I'm thinking it might be more efficient to go thru the entire course.

@ hokinizeu: What I did was go through the question and then find the answer in the test. I skimmed through to get a general idea but didn't “study” the text. You should be able to find all the answers that way – at least I did, except for one question.

Thanks, Makiu. I think I just need to exercise a bit of patience … but after carrying the burden of these exams for so long I just want to have the finishing touch right NOW. lol.

I don't think I want to work in public accounting and I am looking more at up the ladder although I have to quit my current job, though (over-qualified). I have worked in NFP for a while I am looking more in that direction than anything else – maybe get the NFP certification. I am also contemplating on attempting the CISA exams but I have not looked into that seriously yet. I am not big on auditing (you might want someone with a stronger experience in auditing) though I know at this point I have all options open to me. Do you have a timeline for when you plan on starting the business or you need to get with the potential partner(s) first and then go from there? (Maybe this is all too much personal info for the forum? Well, we are almost all kind of anonymous. lol)

just an FYI, i hear you have to pass the Ethics exam in 3 tries; otherwise, you have to pay for it again and try again.

@Kemi22 I recently received the VA license and I can tell the process is very smooth. VA ethic exam is required in addition to the AICPA ethics course. You can take the one offered by Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants because it’s accepted by the VBOA (link below). After you submit all the documents, it will only take a week for them to process. In addition, you can track it online.
    Good luck and congratulation.

can you please clarify what you mean by below? i thought they were one and the same? AICPA offers an ethics course specifically for VA, no?

    @hokinizeu

It was my understanding that you only had to take VA ethics exam if you were applying year after you passed the CPA exam. Calling the Board now.

    FAR 5/6/2015- 84
