Verifying Work Experience: CPA vs Registered CPA

So, my boss is an active “registered CPA” if you look on CPAverify. Has anybody had somebody as a “Registered CPA” rather than a “CPA” verify their work history? I looked back on it a bit and it looks like something Illinois did in the late 2000s – Registered CPAs do not need to complete CPE to maintain their CPA status. I just want to make sure they can still sign off on the experience requirement. Anybody run into this before?

I am listed as Registered on that CPA verify as well. NYS does not have a Registered CPA status. I am listed on my states website as ACTIVE.
Have you tried to check your states website for verification to see what it says instead of CPAverify?

NYS Board of Education has a website to verify license holders for many careers.
I just type NYS CPA verification into google to find it.

He must be a registered active CPA. My boss let his registration lapse and has sense re-registered allowing my one year of experience to begin. A registered active CPA is the best you can get to sign off for you.

Talk about a kick in the stones!!

I was sweating bullets last summer during the review hoping my Boss's registration had not lapsed from 2002-2017 for my 15 years experience.

Thanks for the input, I'll probably just submit it and hope for the best. It is active, I'm just a little confused by the difference between “registered CPA” and “CPA” as the type. When I talked to her about it, she said it was a type she was grandfathered into, but wasn't sure if there's any difference. Hopefully I'm just being overly cautious.

What state are you in? I know that in IL, those who took the exam before 2006 are considered registered if they do not have a license, which means they can use the CPA name but can't do any attest services. Nowadays, a license is required before you can hold yourself out as a CPA.
