Just want to share a detailed timeline on the TX Certificate process as I was very impatient on waiting (I checked email/my online profile several times a day, just like I did when I checked my scores : P ) . Hope this might be helpful to some of you 🙂

    * 3/1/17- I did the four hour ethics course online to get it over with.
    * 3/23/17 – Had my fingerprints done at IdentoGo and have the Oath of Office notarized .
    * 3/27/17- The Board received the items listed below
    – Application for Issuance
    – $50 check for the certification fee
    – Notarized Oath of Office
    – Work experience form filled out by employer
§ – A statement of my CPA supervisor work experience
    – My job description
    – Certificate of completion of the required four hour ethics course
    * 3/30/17 – my online profile was updated to show that the Board received certification fee .
    * 4/5/17 – Received Rules of Professional Conduct exam via email.
    * 4/6/17 – I completed it (required to return it within 48 hours). Once I submitted the answer, the system showed the score.
    * 4/11/17 – All other fields on my online candidate profile were updated (rules of professional conduct score, months of experience, etc) except for the certificate name field
    * 4/14/17 – Received an email from the Board that my license was approved along with my license number, and the email included a notice to go online and pay a licensing fee ($38.50).

In total it took roughly 3 weeks from the time they received my application packet to the time I was able to call myself a CPA. Good luck to everyone!

    • During the process, I emailed Qualifications Team 2 times to check my status, the person who helped me is patient and responded my email timely. Really applicate that. : )

I called the California Board of Accountancy last week and found out that they are really behind in processing new applicants. They are just now starting on the applications that they received in January! I guess they had a huge influx of applications due to the new requirements taking effect January 1st. I thought that the only thing I had left to do was to take the online Ethics exam, turns out I am short about 10 units. I only have 140 semester units and you need 150 units total.

Looks like I won't be able to get my license unit towards the end of this year.

^Ditto. I was like this shit doesn't happen in CA, EVER. The only time they're fast is probably calling you back. It took them to MARCH (when I applied in Dec) for them to TELL me that I was short 1/3 unit in accounting and now I have to take an Ethics course, which ends in June. So I'll be SO happy to call myself a CPA before my birthday.

@Kim, I applied my license in CA in Apr(docs. arrived on 4/3) and actually when I called them to check the status, they did tell me the same answer with what you got–they were still processing Jan application and they told me my application would be reviewed at the end of Jun or maybe beginning of July. However I received the pre-approval letter asking me to pay $120 licnese fee on May 10! The letter was dated May 3.

@Shinesee1, I received my preapproval letter on May 19 (letter was dated May 16). I sent the $120 check via overnight, and it just cleared my bank today (06/08). I called the CBA and they said the my license number will be assigned before month-end. I think we are almost there!

TX – Where do you find the application for issuance? I don't see it online. Also, do I need to get my fingerprints done again? Thanks!

” I did the four hour ethics course online to get it over with.”

Where did you go to do the course? Can you share more information please? Thanks!

The state website lists several options for the 4 hour ethics course. (https://www.tsbpa.state.tx.us/pdffiles/l0015.pdf) Purchase the one you want and take the course. It was pretty easy. Keep your certificate to mail with your application.

The Rules of Professional Conduct exam is sent via email to you once your application for issuance has been received and processed. You will have 48 hours to complete the exam once you start it. You'll want to glance through the Texas administrative code, found here (Chapter 501 is Rules of Professional Conduct): https://texreg.sos.state.tx.us/public/readtac$ext.ViewTAC?tac_view=4&ti=22&pt=22&ch=501

The application for issuance is sent to you once you pass – it's not located online. If you want to get a head start, you can print the work experience and oath of office paperwork from online and get those completed while you wait.

Good luck, everyone! It took me about 6 weeks to complete the application process, but I had a college level ethics class I had to finish up and get transcripts for and I lost a week to the stomach flu.

@Jason I am still in the process but here’s my timeline so far for TX:

    3/8/18 – Passed last exam
*Board sent application and remaining requirements on 3/9

3/16/18 – Mailed packet to board (fee, application, work experience, ethics course, oath)

3/19/18 – received email that packet was received and is under review

3/26/18 – received code of conduct email, submitted same day

That’s all I got, just waiting on next steps. I know someone though that mailed their stuff earlier in the month but seems to be on the same schedule.
