turn-around time from applying to receiving license?

I’m curious if anyone knows how long it typically takes, which I’m sure varies by state, from the time you submit your application to when you are officially licensed? I’m not in a rush, but just curious.

I'm curious too. I think it depends on the date the state board has the (monthly?) meeting where license applications are reviewed. This might be on the BOA website calendar, and then the paperwork needs to be in their hands a certain number of days before this meeting (sometimes 10 days). The whole process is probably way different for every state though, so I'm not sure.

I was wondering myself as to whether you're allowed to send in the license application before receiving a congratulatory letter. Jeff says in his 50 things to know about the CPA exam that you can do this (step#45). https://www.another71.com/50-things/ “Fill them out, write a check, and mail it in. Donʼt wait for them to take their sweet time in sending some packet to you. Chances are you can send them the forms and get the process rolling before they even slap the postage on your envelope.”

And candidates in 3 different states have done this and have said it's fine (I gotta check my state though), but that should speed the whole process along.

Yep, I'm one that checked with my state. But I realized that I'm sure they need to wait until they get the info from NASBA before they will even consider my application… So, maybe before the end of the year. One of our external auditors was telling me last year that she applied in August and still hadn't heard anything by our year end audit in mid-January! I hope that isn't the case… I'm not that patient. 🙂

I'm hoping for October 20th if I get really lucky and get everything in on time. Otherwise Dec 1st would be the next date (which would still be awesome).

I just looked and the upcoming meetings for MN are Oct 18, Nov 14, and Dec 9th. I expect that all of my forms will be received before the October meeting, but I'd be surprised if it happens at that meeting. I'm hoping for November. 🙂

My app didn't take long in GA. I found out in June I passed my last 2 sections, I had my paperwork mailed by 6/30/11. The GA Board of Accountancy cancelled the July meeting b/c too many members couldn't make the meeting. They met on 8/31/11 and I had an email on 9/1/11 saying my app was approved and it even contained my license #. I don't know if it would have been approved at the July meeting or not. Anyway, I didn't think that was too long to process the app and issue my license #.

This is a question for anyone who has applied for licensure in California – how long did it take from the day you completed your application file to get your license? Do they send you a letter or something?

I just sent in my application yesterday and I got my LiveScan done a couple days ago. Finished the Ethics Exam yesterday. Sent my experience form in today. I want to be able to call myself a CPA!
