Tips on taking the California Ethics Exam

The ethics exam is really hard. Here are two tips that got me through it on my second try: I did not have them for my first try.

    1. When you are looking up your answers in the PDF file, write down the section and paragraph where you found them. If you fail, you get a printout saying under what sections you got wrong answers. The sections are in the order in which you got questions wrong.

This printout is of some help although not a lot, since the sections are big. I suggest that as you find your answers, set up a spreadsheet with the question number, your answer, and where you found it.

    2. BE VERY CAREFUL to notice if the questions ask about California rules or not. Some of the rules are different. I got a few wrong on my first try because I did not pay attention to California-specific questions.

Good luck to everyone! After working so hard to pass the CPA exam, this test is like adding insult to injury but we have to get through it.

Best of luck to you both, you'll get there!

Also, once I finally passed Ethics and sent in my license application the CBA took their time, IMO. I sent it in – AND the check, AND the sign-off from my firm – on Feb. 26. Didn't get the license number until May 15.

You have to get your fingerprints done with the LiveScan thing. LiveScan never works for me. Apparently I have bad fingerprints and LiveScan doesn't read them. I'm a Notary and they require it too. But even though I know it won't work there is no way to shortcut it. I have to wait for *two* failures of the LiveScan and then they finally do the background check with my name.
