I have completed all of my exams and want to apply for my license… there’s just one small issue. I have an arrest record. 1 arrest. For an issue in which the charges (obstruction of justice) were dropped. On the background check, do arrest records show? Do past charges show? Would it be worth it to get my record expunged?

I am in a similar situation. Yes, the arrest will show when you do LiveScan. Were you convicted of any crime? Having it expunged always looks better, but it will still show on your background check through LiveScan. Every state has different rules for reporting convictions, so read the Fine Print about disclosure rules. Having a conviction expunged always looks bette though. Goodluck.

No, I wasn't convicted. My attorney was able to get the charges dropped completely.

If the charges were dropped then it shouldn't be on any record.

Shouldn't this have already been brought up if you signed affidavits to apply to take sections of the CPA exam?

Thank you user track55! I hadn't even thought to consult an attorney about this matter involving the law, expunging my arrest record, and my prior legal mistake. I was simply asking to learn if anyone else had a personal experience, and could offer some insight as to their course of action.

I actually applied for the exam way before any of this happened. I did something stupid about a six months ago, and charges were not pressed until November 2016, after I'd passed all 4 parts. Now that I'm trying to apply, the new found arrest record is an issue. I'll double check with my lawyer to ensure the dropped charges won't appear.

It shouldn't be a problem with getting licensed as long as you answer all the application questions truthfully but may give you a challenge when job searching (or may not ever come up).
