Stupid question about work experience..

I’ve worked for one year at the Big 4 but I haven’t passed all the exams yet. Is the one year work experience requirement AFTER you pass the tests? Or does this year still count as experience even though I have not passed the exams yet? As in, does it matter if you earned the experience before or after you pass the exams?

I think there's one or two states that specify when the experience counts but in most states it doesn't matter,

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

In NY State, your work experience (before and after passing the exams) count.

    FAR - 86
    REG - 85
    BEC - 90
    AUD - 84

    Check what your State requires.

In KY: A year of experience is defined as 2000 hours in a period of not less than 12 months earned after the awarding of a baccalaureate degree.

This really works on my advantage because my work experience was from 20 years ago when I earned my B.S. degree. And I barely had hours of experience (related to Accounting) in the last two years.

soyanks, where does it say that? I am in NY but I can't seem to find where the experience requirements mention the timing of earning that experience

“EXPERIENCE HISTORY: Applicant must account for all time from graduation to the date of this application by providing below a chronological

listing of employment, unemployment, if any, and other activities. (Only accounting and auditing experience that is being claimed to meet the

requirements and that will be supported by an Employer Certification (Form 4B) should be listed under “Experience Claimed.”) “

When you fill out Form 4, there's a page where you have to list out all your work experience and then it has to be either classfied as “Experience Claimed” or “Experience or Time Not Claimed.” Basically, you select the time period or experience that you would like to use to satisfy the experience requirement and classify that under “Experience Claimed”. For that experience, you have to ask your current or former employer to fill out Form 4B.

    FAR - 86
    REG - 85
    BEC - 90
    AUD - 84
