I am getting ready to purchase study material for the CPA exam. I want to do self-study. I am a person who needs books to read through questions to follow that I can go through over and over.

Does anyone have an suggestions on what would be good study material for me?

I have been using Becker for almost a year. My software is going to be expired in a month. I still have 3 more sections to go. I want to switch to Yaeger but I have a tight budget. I want to buy one section of review material at a time (unless there is a financing program which is not the case). I am confused because there are so many combinations of Yeager review materials. And it also come with Wiley test bank software?? I only need the review textbook and the software for me to practice MCQ and simulations. I already have the Wiley 15.0 software complete set. What kind of Yaeger material combination is good for me? Any suggestion is appreciated.

I have bought and used $15,000 of review courses. Yaeger Home Study is the best for FAR, REG and BEC. I like Lambers (Garland) for AUD. If you are having trouble with a particular topic, Bob Monette (Bisk Hot Spots) is very good. Gleim Test Prep ($55) is good for more multiple choice questions. If I had to do it all over again, these would be the only courses that I would buy.

    ww86,

Has your Becker software given you any warnings that it's about to expire? I installed my software the end of May last year or maybe it was the first week of June… but it hasn't prompted me yet that it will be expiring soon. I knew that it was only good for 1 year. Just curious, when did yours start warning you?

I'll be switching to Yaeger if I don't pull off AUD in a couple of weeks.

I have been researching review materials for a while and I have decided to purchase Yaeger. It fits my budget right now and I was really impressed with the sample video on their site. Good luck!!

    FAR-July, AUD-August, BEC-October, REG-Novemeber

    Jeff,

Does Yaeger HomeStudy and CRAM Webcasts both include MCQ and simulation practices other than Wiley 15.0 complete test bank? How are HomeStudy and CRAM Webcasts different? Thanks!

Has anyone used CPAexcel review books or does anyone have any comments about it – how good is it?

I have not used CPAExcel. I used Yaeger for FAR, REG and BEC. However, here is what another CPA candidate had to say about CPAExcel and Yaeger:

    CPAExcel

    Pros

    1. High tech, e.g. useful online tool to help keep track on your study progress, unlimited exam simulations

    2. User-friendly, bit-sized lectures (5-20 minutes)

    3. Unlimited updates and access never expires

    Cons

    1. The lecturers in some video tend to read straight from the slides

    2. Past users think video not comprehensive enough – many recommend to use CPAExcel (if at all) in conjunction with Yaeger if you need to understand concepts; or with Gleim/Wiley if you need more practice questions.

    Yaeger

    Pros

    1. Champion of the old-school approach. If you like someone who writes on the board and explains concept to you in the old-fashioned way, you’d appreciate Yaeger.

    2. Good quality handouts. The materials are very helpful and easy to understand.

    3. Live phone support. This is quite unique, and you can often reach and talk to the owner (Phil Yaeger) himself.

    4. Good value for money. One of the most affordable guided review courses out there.

    Cons

    1. Old school. Obviously this can be a turn-off for some people.
